San Diego politics is busy today. At 10:00 AM San Diego’s City Council is meeting and the top things on their agenda are …. Honoring the San Diego State University men’s basketball team for their stellar season, by declaring today “SDSU Men’s Basketball Day” … Changing committee assignment because of Ed Harris’s appointment to the council to finish off Mayor Faulconer’s term now that he’s mayor. And at 2:00 this afternoon Mayor Faulconer is making the official presentation of his budget proposal.

This morning at 9:00 Veterans Village of San Diego is hosting a town hall about state proposition 41. Two political endorsements today.

This group was first formed to help sponsor California’s Proposition 13 in 1978. Many blame prop 13 for many funding problems that California schools have. 2: Then at 11:00 AM the San Diego Regional Chamber of Commerce is endorsing Councilwoman Lorie Zapf’s city council re-election and Chis Cate’s run for the district six council seat. They are both republicans running for a quote “non-partisan” seat.

Opera singers are suing the dying San Diego Opera. The singers have 2-years left on their contract and say that the Opera has to go to arbitration to figure out how much to pay them. So the signers want a federal judge to force arbitration.

In court today two things worth talking about.

1: At 9:00 AM in El Cajon’s courthouse closing arguments begin in the trial of Kassim Alhimidi. He’s accused of beating his wife to death.

2: And at 1:30 Pedro Zurita is being arraigned and accused of killing his estranged wife and leaving her body in the parking lot of wear she worked in Carlsbad.

And finally this morning at 10:40 San Diego Unified School District is announcing a $716,000 thousand-dollar grant from the Defense Department. The grant is supposed to help military kids get into Advanced Placement classes.

The calls for San Diego Mayor Bob Filner to step down are only getting louder following his public mea culpa. Yesterday afternoon the several former supporters of Mayor Filner accused him of sexual harassment and he responded by apologizing in a video message.

[youtube:http://youtu.be/cfkAgsmNF-A%5D

Many questions are still out.

How will Filner’s public acknowledgement of his sexual harassment affect any future law suits?

Who are the women making these accusations?

What exactly did he do?

Then there is the political blow back on the Democratic Party. Filner is a Dem. San Diego is about evenly split Republican vs. Democrat and only the future knows how this will affect that. This story will continue to hash itself out for a long time to come.
