The 36-year-old man accused of kidnapping at 14-year-old boy and taking him to Florida will face federal prosecution in San Diego. Authorities believe that Tony McLeod got the young teen to meet him through an internet video game. Authorities also say McLeod sent the boy pornographic text messages, he’s accused of meeting the boy and flying with him from Los Angeles to Tampa Bay Florida.

Lots of political news today

First at 9:00 AM the San Diego County Board of Supervisors is going to talk about supporting federal legislation to close a loophole in child sex trafficking laws and to speed up prosecution of the accused. The bill is called The Child Protection Act of 2013 will remove a requirement that suspects know the victims are minors.

At 10:00 this morning San Diego’s City Council is meeting about infrastructure needs, capping political party contributions, and art work to recognize Mission Bay as the birthplace of the triathlon.

More open houses for residents along the proposed trolley extension to La Jolla will be at Caltrans offices on Taylor Street this afternoon at 4:00.

And at 5:00 tonight the San Diego Unified School District Board of Education is meeting about its two point five billion dollar budget for 2013/14 school year. The School Districts are now facing a 100 million dollar shortfall for 14/15 year and a 54 for the year after that.

Sir Richard Branson is speaking at the National Apartment Association Education Conference and Exposition this morning at 9:00 AM. The conference’s five-day run begins today at the San Diego Convention Center.

The proposed program for the Balboa Park centennial celebration will be announced this afternoon at 3:00. Mayor Bob Filner and the events producers will talk to the press about the 2015 party plans.

And finally this morning at 8:00 AM the City of El Cajon is participating in an attempt to stage to world’s largest swim lesson. Last year more than 24,000 people worldwide participated. If you want to join in go to the Fletcher Hills Pool at 2345 Center Place in El Cajon.

The price of gas keeps going up. Yesterday was the largest jump since May 14 and the price of gas has gone up four times in five days. The average price of a gallon of regular gas is now $3.97.

Firefighters are training for wild fires in Chula Vista’s back country. Beginning at 9:00 AM Chula Vista Fire Department will host multiple fire agencies in a live fire training exercises. Several acres will be burned; firefighters on the ground and in the air will train on fighting them. So if you see smoke in South East Chula Vista don’t panic

At 4:00 this afternoon San Diego Unified School District is celebrating the retirement of many of its teachers and staff including Superintendent Bill Kowba.

San Diego Association of Governments is busy this evening. First at 5:30 tonight SANDAG is hosting an open house about the Mid-City Rapid Bus Project. This will be a new express route from San Diego State University to downtown San Diego. At 6:00 tonight other representatives of SANDAG will be in Escondido taking public input of a bunch of topics: from land use to climate change to the environment.

This morning at the South Bay YMCA at 9:00 San Diego County official will remind parents about being safe at the pool and beach in the summer time.

At 10:00 the first applications for $500,000 dollars in grants from the county for enhancement projects is being reviewed by a new panel. For the first time the panel will give their grant recommendations to Supervisor Dave Roberts. In the past these grants have been seen as a way for supervisors to fund pet projects, and that’s why the panel was created.

And finally at 8:45 AM at LEGOLAND in Carlsbad is the unveiling of a life sized Lego Star Wars X-Wing Fighter. It took 32 builders 17000 hours to assemble the 43-foot-long 11-foot-tall 46 thousand pound model out of about 5 million Legos. Nerds everywhere are shivering with excitement.

In court this morning

Michael Dale Garritson’s trail will get a courtroom today. A video sufficed that shows him allegedly abusing a 23-year-old disabled man.

The preliminary hearing for 68-year-old Frederick Hengl starts this morning. Hengl is accused of killing, dismembering, and then trying to cook the body of his 73-year-old wife.

A 64-year-old man convicted of molesting three of his young relatives may be sentenced this morning.

And in court this afternoon

The Arraignment for Michael Vilkin, Vilkin is accused of killing his neighbor possibly because of a tree trimming argument.

San Diego County’s Treasurer-Tax Collector Dan McAllister is reminding property owners that the second installment of their property taxes will be due by April 10th.

A man wanted for the kidnapping and sexual assault of a 10-year-old girl may be in San Diego. 30-year-old Tobias Dustin Summers fled from police in Los Angeles and is believed to have come to San Diego. Summers and 29-year-old Daniel Martinez allegedly abducted the girl from her Northridge bedroom last Wednesday … she was found by a coffee shop employee that took her to the Emergency Room. Martinez was arrested Sunday. Summers is 6 feet tall, about 160-pounds, blond hair, blue eyes, with large tattoos of a flaming skull and woman on his right arm. He is considered dangerous and anyone spotting him should call 9-1-1
