It is a rainy day in San Diego … sporadic showers and drizzle is making the AM commute a hassle.

Jury selection in the second trial of the man accused of shooting at people on the freeway is today. Stephen Dragasits is accused of shooting at random cars driving along some of San Diego’s freeway injuring a 21-year-old. That begins at 9:00 AM in San Diego’s downtown courthouse.

Also at 9:00 this morning San Diego’s City Council is continuing to review Mayor Bob Filner’s proposed budget. Budget items on the agenda for today are police, fire, libraries, and parks.

This afternoon at 3:30 Sweetwater Union High School District’s first annual Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math or STEAM Summit starts. They are showing off how student and teacher use iPads in class and in their robotics program. Also showing off is the Mayor’s Cup Cyber Challenge, Visual and Performing Arts projects that use art, music, and technology. It’s all free and open to the public at Otay Ranch High School.

The voice of Charlie Brown pleads guilty to stalking and criminal threats charges. Arrested in January 56-year-old Peter Robbins threatened a doctor that did cosmetic surgery on his girlfriend. Robbins then physically assaulted his girlfriend during a fight over the surgery, and reportedly left threating messages on his girlfriend’s voice mail too. Robbins will be sentenced next month and could be sentenced to up to three years in state prison.

Two sentencing’s today of note

First at 9 AM Paul Thweni will hear his fate. Thweni pleaded guilty to bribing a University of San Diego basketball player in an attempt to fix a game.

And this afternoon at 1:30 Rick C Huffman will be sentenced for burglary in a botched attempt to steal bank customer account info.

Finally this morning at 10:15 the San Diego Unified School District is showing off its new Motion Picture Industry facility at Point Loma High. It’s all part of a program that will give students a professional style place to make their very own movies.

FBI arrests Cal State San Marcos student body candidate

SAN MARCOS, Calif. – A California State University San Marcos student was arrested and will face federal charges for allegedly rigging a student body election.

Matthew Weaver, a junior at CSUSM, was arrested Thursday and charged with fraud, access device fraud and unauthorized access to a computer, according to FBI special agent Foxworth.

“It was something that rose to the level that it did violate federal charges,” said Foxworth.

Court documents showed Weaver was stealing the identification and passwords of fellow students.

“Our IT department noticed some unusual activities going on with one of our campus computer lab computers,” said Margaret Lutz, spokeswoman for CSUSM.

Lutz said it happened last year during the ASI student body elections.  According to federal documents, Weaver had attached 19 keyloggers to various computers in the computer lab.  A keylogger is a device that records keystrokes entered into a computer.
