Teachers in the East San Diego County city of Alpine are striking this morning at 6:00 AM. The Alpine Teachers Association says that the Alpine School District is trying to make unacceptable cuts to their salaries. Teachers say up to 60%.

However in a tweet the district says “bargaining teams met again … Unfortunately, we were unable to reach an agreement.” And then they posted a link to their proposal.

Another San Diego Police officer is accused of sexual misconduct. Police Chief William Lansdown says the yet-to-be named officer is under investigation but has not been charged. This all comes on the heels of charges being filed against former SDPD officer Christopher Hays for sexually inappropriate contact with suspects. The latest charges come from a woman that initially accused Hays of groping her then exposing himself. She now says that Hays wasn’t the guy but another officer did it, after arresting her for suspicion of auto theft last year. In a press conference SDPD said that they are going to begin requiring at least two officers be present after woman are arrested.

At 9:00 AM in San Diego’s courthouse Laura Elshire is being sentenced for her involvement in a failed bank heist where one of her accomplices was shot.

Also at 9:00 AM in San Diego’s courthouse closing arguments start in the penalty phase for the Mexican kidnapping and murder gang Los Palillos. Jorge Rojas Lopez and Juan Estrada-Gonzalez were convicted of multiple murders in San Diego between 2004-2007. The prosecution is asking for the death penalty or life in prison.

The 2014 Maritime Economic Development Workshop starts its two-day conference this morning at 8:15. Representatives from Port Authorities from across the country will be at the Hilton San Diego Bayfront for the annual meeting.

Helping people sign up for health coverage by the March 1st federal deadline is what the North County Health Services is doing at 10:00 am in Oceanside’s Public Library.

At 10:30 this morning San Diego Fire Rescue Foundation is giving the Fire Department $20,000 worth of cable cutters. Emergency responders are going to demo the new tools by cutting a fake victim out of a car.

Tonight at 6:00 San Diego Black Police Officers Association is honoring Black History Month with a display of pre-World War II officers at the San Diego Police Museum.

And finally also at 6:00 tonight the granddaughter of Dashiell Hammett is talking about her grandfather’s book and movie “The Maltese Falcon” at the Oceanside Museum of Art.

A man registering as a “former Sexually Violent Predator” or S-V-P is living in downtown San Diego near Horton Plaza and the Gaslamp Quarter. John Kreischer is classified as an S-V-P because of multiple counts of forcible rape in 1977, assault with intent to commit rape in 1981, two counts of kidnapping and attempted rape from 1988 and failing to register as a Sex Offender in 2009. He is living in the Plaza Hotel at 1037 4th Avenue in downtown San Diego. Kreischer is being watched by a G-P-S monitoring system, is in compliance with his registration requirements, and is not wanted by law enforcement at this time.

This morning at 9:00 Rashon Abernathy, Seandell Jones, and Shaquille Jordan will be sentenced for murdering a college student they lured using a Craig’s List ad. The victim thought he was buying a laptop but he and his girlfriend were robbed then following a brief car chase he was shot and killed. Abernathy is looking at 65 years to life … while Jones and Jordan are facing 50 years to life.

The fight between the San Diego Mayor’s office and the Tourism Marketing District Board of Directors is hot again. Yesterday Mayor Bob Filner refused to release funds to the T-M-D because he says “We will issue their money when they hold up their end of the bargain, for example, approving payments to the Balboa Park Centennial.” Today at 9:00 AM the TMD is holding an open door meeting to talk about the funding dispute … they say that TMD employees will have to be laid off unless the Mayor releases the money. The meeting is at the Catamaran Hotel, Aviary Ballroom, 3999 Mission Blvd.

This morning at 10:45 organizers of the Rock n Roll Marathon and Half-Marathon will talk to the media. Topics will include security, race-day closures, and the new route.

And this afternoon at 3:30 Officials from the Scripps Institution of Oceanography will talk about awarding James Cameron the 2013 Nierenberg Prize for Science in the Public Interest. The famous filmmaker is being honored for donating an unmanned deep sea diver called “Lander” to the institute. Other prize winners are Walter Cronkite and Jane Goodall. So he’s in very good company.

Murder suspect’s suicide letter shows devotion to sex ritual


VISTA, Calif. – Chilling excerpts were read in court Friday from what detectives said is a confession letter to how a Fallbrook Marine wife was murdered in alleged sex ritual.

Killgore Murder Suspect“I wrapped the rope around her neck after burying her face in the pillow,” Sheriff’s homicide detective Suzanne Fiske said while reading defendant Jessica Lynn Lopez’s alleged suicide letter.

Lopez and two co-defendants Louis Perez and Dorothy Maraglino are charged with the murder of Brittany Killgore.

Fiske had located Lopez and Maraglino at a Point Loma Hotel two days after Killgore disappeared.  She also found a key piece of evidence in the case.

“I love you all and goodbye, Jessica Lynn Lopez,” read Fiske.

On the fifth day of the preliminary hearing, Fiske who found Lopez’s letter took the stand and read the letter to the court.

“The letter was also in three additional envelopes on the dressing room counter,”…

Oceanside couple charged in case of child sex slave


[trib_ndn vid=23906868 site_section=dash]VISTA, Calif. – An Oceanside couple accused of enslaving a 12-year-old girl faces 26 counts of aggravated sexual abuse of a minor.

Neither Inez Martinez Garcia and Marcial Garcia Hernandez entered a plea during their arraignment in a Vista courtroom Monday.  The judge continued the arraignment to give the couple time to hire an attorney and also a special interpreter for Inez Garcia.

“At least one defendant is from the Oaxaca area of Mexico. They speak a Zapotecan dialect,” said Deputy District Attorney Gretchen Means.   “I think our desire always is for the defendants to have their choice of counsel to be represented in a way feel most comfortable.”

Hernandez and Garcia were arrested on Thursday and face 26 counts of aggravated sexual abuse of a minor. Police said the couple smuggled the girl from Mexico and kept her at their Oceanside home on Grant Street.
