Fire danger in San Diego County remains high today. 5% humidity and winds gusting up to 75-miles-per-hour is why the National Weather Service’s red flag warning is still in effect. They expect the elevated danger to last through Wednesday.

Local government is busy today. San Diego’s City Council is taking public comment starting at 9:00 AM. On the agenda are a $120 million dollar bond, special parking for electric cars, and a proclamation marking the 25th anniversary of San Diego’s famous rack ‘n roll night club the Casbah.

Then this afternoon at 2:00 the Port of San Diego Board of Commissioners is talking about an audit of the ports financials in a special meeting.

At 5:00 tonight the San Diego Unified School District Board of Education is meeting about forming a coalition of large urban school districts in California and how to offer some high school’ers college level classes.

Councilman Kevin Faulconer is picking up another endorsement for his mayoral run this afternoon at 12:30 from an Asian-American business owners group.

Sustainability and the next mayor is what they’re talking about at a forum being hosted by the World Resource Sim Center tonight at 5:30.

On today’s legal calendar there’s lots going on…

At 9:00 AM in federal court the imprisonment of 14 accused gang member’s is being discussed in light of their arrest for sex-trafficking.

David Huberto Ortiz is being sentenced for murdering an 8-month-old girl this morning at 8:30 in El Cajon’s courthouse.

Then in Vista’s courthouse at 1:30 this afternoon Justin Gibson and Kenneth Hamilton will hear their fates for killing two teens at Libby Lake Park.

And in San Diego’s downtown courthouse also at 1:30 PM Esteban Nandin is being sentenced for raising an assault rifle at police officers.

The Surfrider Foundation is giving away 1000 free reusable shopping bags in honor of Day Without a Bag. The volunteers will be in front of the Pancho Villa’s Farmers Market at 3245 El Cajon Blvd.

And finally tonight at 6:00 enjoy a free movie at the San Diego Public Library with “Cold Souls” a 2011 film about a frustrated actor that is having his soul removed and put in frozen storage.

The federal government names 24 people in a federal indictment and accuses them of being a sex trafficking gang. According to the feds these suspects are part of a nationwide gang that they also accuse of racketeering, murder, kidnapping, robbery, and drug crimes. Authorities say the gang called B-M-S worked with lower level street gangs like Neighborhood Crips, the Lincoln Park Crips and the West Coast Crips. U.S. Attorney Laura Duffy says “The kind of sex trafficking described in this indictment is nothing less than modern-day slavery”. Nearly all of those arrested will be in San Diego’s federal court this afternoon at 1:30.

Governor Jerry Brown is pitching his Budget proposal all across the state today. He’ll be in San Diego’s City Hall media room at 12:30 this afternoon.

Ray Mabus the Secretary of the Navy is all over San Diego today. First he’s on base at North Island Naval Base for San Diego Military Advisory Council’s monthly breakfast meeting at 7:30 AM. Then he’s off to the General Dynamics NASSCO shipyard to talk to the workers there at 10:30. And he ends his world wind with a 1:00 talk with some of the sailors at Naval Base Coronado.

San Diego’s sidewalk conditions are the subject of a 12:45 PM news conference with San Diego interim Mayor Todd Gloria and Councilman Mark Kersey. They are hoping to get an accurate picture of which sidewalks need repair, how much it’ll cost, and where to start.

At 11:00 AM San Diego Unified School District Board of Education President Kevin Beiser is talking to the American Society for Industrial Security about safety and security at San Diego schools. They’re meeting at the Admiral Baker Golf Course.

And finally tonight at 6:00 the public can hear the San Diego County Water Authority talking about some preliminary plans to manage their capital projects and climate change.
