The calls for San Diego Mayor Bob Filner to step down are only getting louder following his public mea culpa. Yesterday afternoon the several former supporters of Mayor Filner accused him of sexual harassment and he responded by apologizing in a video message.

Many questions are still out.

How will Filner’s public acknowledgement of his sexual harassment affect any future law suits?

Who are the women making these accusations?

What exactly did he do?

Then there is the political blow back on the Democratic Party. Filner is a Dem. San Diego is about evenly split Republican vs. Democrat and only the future knows how this will affect that. This story will continue to hash itself out for a long time to come.

Today the 26th annual Stand Down homeless veteran outreach weekend is beginning at 6:00 AM. Tents and services for veterans like counseling, medical care, and even legal help are there to help San Diego homeless veterans get off the street. The outreach runs through the weekend.

Two important court events today … Both in San Diego’s downtown courthouse. First at 9:00 Stephen Dragasits is scheduled to be sentenced for shooting at random cars that were driving on the 163 freeway. He ended up shooting and wounding a 21-year-old college student and one other car.

Then at 1:30 Valentino Tafilele is scheduled to be arraigned for threatening a woman with a gun and then raping her.

And finally San Diego’s annual Pride Weekend begins tonight at 6:00. Tonight’s rally and party is called the Spirit of Stonewall Rally and kicks off the weekend long event. University Avenue between Normal street and Richmond street and Normal Street between University Avenue and Harvey Milk Way will be shut down.

The National Weather Service says that big waves and rip currents will hit San Diego’s beaches late this afternoon and into tomorrow. Swimmers and surfers need to be very careful and always swim in front of a lifeguard. Personally on days like these unless you’re a strong ocean swimmer and experienced surfer do not go in the water. However if you do go in and end up getting caught in a rip remember to swim parallel to the shore until your free of the current then swim in.

San Diego City Council is meeting today and first thing this morning at 9:00 they are going to talk about connecting the airport to the trolley system. A report by the San Diego County Regional Airport Authority will be presented that proposes a new trolley stop on the north side of the airport on the Pacific Highway. The report says construction would involve building a pedestrian bridge and a parking structure. They are also talking about possible changes to terminal one.

Then at 2:00 this afternoon the San Diego City Council Natural Resource and Culture Committee in meeting about water prices.

At 9:00 this morning officials from the San Diego Association of Governments (or SANDAG) are going to announce some discounts for people that owe toll fines for the South Bay Expressway. SANDAG is also meeting tonight at 6:00 to take public input about possibly remodeling the San Ysidro Transportation Center.
