Two arraignments of note this afternoon at 1:30.

First in San Diego’s courthouse former high school wrestling coach Jeret Thomas Needham is being arraigned for shooting an acquaintance.

Then in Vista’s courthouse Christopher Michael Johnson is being arraigned for firing several shoots off inside his apartment before engaging police in a standoff over Christmas

This morning at 9:00 the Port of San Diego Big Bay Balloon Parade and all of the things that go with it start off … First with the Wiener National dog races … Then at 9:45 a five K run starts … And finally at 10:00 AM the balloons hit the parade route from the County administration building along North Harbor Drive to the Navy Complex.

Tonight 7:15 is kick-off time for the Holiday Bowl at Qualcomm Stadium. Texas Tech will face Arizona State.

And finally tonight at 4:00 all of San Diego is invited to celebrate the life of long time broadcaster, journalist, and environmentalist Loren Nancarrow. Loren pasted away Sunday night. The family is asking those that want to remember Loren to meet at Seaside Reef beach in Cardiff. Bring a kayak or surfboard to for the paddle out or stay ashore and light a candle.

Today is Veteran’s Day and there are events all over town.

First at 8:00 AM Junior ROTC cadets from all over San Diego County are performing drills at the County Administration building.

In Oceanside at 10:00 AM North County’s Veterans Association is honoring veterans today at their hall on 1617 Mission Ave.

Also at 10:00 in front of the USS Midway Museum it’s the annual Veteran’s Day blood drive

And at 11:00 AM along San Diego’s North Harbor Drive from Grape Street to G Street marchers remembers veterans in San Diego’s 27th annual Veteran’s Day Parade.

Then this afternoon from 1:00 till 4:00 Veterans, active-duty military, and their families can enjoy free admission to the USS Midway Museum’s Veteran’s Day Festival.

And finally tonight at 6:30 the top candidates for San Diego’s Mayor’s office are facing off in a forum at the California Western School of Law.

The Chariot fire continues to burn in East San Diego Counties Mt. Laguna. 4700 acres have burned so far in the fires 4-days. Over 1300 firefighters are on scene battling the flames that began Saturday afternoon. Several campgrounds are evacuated along with some of the people that live in the rural communities. San Diego’s American Red Cross is running an emergency shelter at Joan MacQueen Middle School in Alpine.

This morning at 10:00 the San Diego City Council is getting together to talk about a proposal to ban the sale of dogs, cats, and rabbits within city limits, unless the animal comes from a city or county animal shelter. The proposal requires pet shop owners to keep certificates showing the animal’s origin.

Also on the agenda is a resolution from Lorie Zapf to ask the Defense Department to keep the Miramar Air Show going. Because of budget cuts many air show across the country have been canceled and Zapf wants to keep ours going. She says the air show contributes $17 million to the local economy.

San Diego County’s Board of Supervisors is meeting this morning as well, but at 9:00 AM. On their agenda the employment agreements with the union that represents the Public Defenders and Probation Officers.

Tonight at 5:00 the San Diego Unified School District Board of Education will start looking at way to get long serving employees who are not at retirement age to take an early retirement. They hope that getting people to retire early will help the district close a nearly 54 million dollar budget gap.

In court two arraignments and a sentencing of note

First in San Diego’s downtown courthouse the sentencing of Geronimo Polina is scheduled for 8:30 this morning. He’s been convicted of trying to carry out a Mexican Mafia hit inside San Diego County’s Donovan State Prison.

Then at 1:30 in Vista’s courthouse 67-year-old Abdula Rehman Ibrahim will be arraigned. He reportedly walked into the Escondido Police Department and confessed to stabbing his wife of 40-years.

And also at 1:30 in Vista’s courthouse the man accused of driving the car that killed an elderly couple will be arraigned. 20-year-old Earl Smith Jr is accused of driving drunk and killing the couple that was out on their daily walk, a walk that they have taken every day for at least 30-years.

And finally this morning at 8:15 San Diego Unified School District is hosting the eighth annual “Welcome to Middle School Parade” . Hundreds of students will march from Monroe Clark Middle School to Rosa Parks Elementary and back again. It should be very cute.

61-year-old Michael Vilkin is under arrest and accused of murdering his neighbor in the Northern San Diego County city of Encinitas. The victim was identified by U.T. San Diego as 56-year-old John C. Upton. Upton is known for his work about the plight of Romanian orphans. San Diego County Sheriff’s say the conflict may have stemmed from an ongoing conflict between the neighbors.

Today at 9:30 AM near the San Diego / Tijuana border crossing Representatives Scott Peters, Susan Davis and Juan Vargas will ask for the President to promise to fund border infrastructure projects. The Congress members say that “an inefficient border crossing is causing the loss of billions to our regional economy”

One thing in court worth mentioning is the sentencing of 61-year-ol Patrick Pawlicki. He was convicted of molesting three of his young relatives.

At noon members from The People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals are holding a demonstration in front of a HoneyBaked Ham store. They want people to give up their ham and go vegan for Easter.

And at 8:30 this morning the Interfaith Shelter Network‘s annual Good Friday Walk will begin. They are expecting about 4000 people to walk starting at the San Diego Rescue Mission. Walkers will be in costume and depicting biblical scenes along the way.
