San Diego Political Podcast Movies and Politics

This time on San Diego Political Podcast I sat down and talked to Josh Board at Polite Provisions and we spend the better part of an hour talking about movie and politics.

Meatbal Sub

Josh ate a massive pork sandwich and was a pleasure to hang out with.

He doesn’t think movies play an important role politically while I think they do.

Oh and about 3 minutes in we talked about the Equal Time for more info on that go HERE.

San Diego’s Red Flag Warning continues today. For all of Southern California the hot and dry weather warning is in effect until 6:00 tonight. At 10:00 AM Mayor Bob Filner and Fire Chief Javier Mainar are talking to the press about being prepared for wild-fire season.

San Diego Unified School District Board of Education is reviewing the punishment given to over 30 high school students for making a video of themselves “twerking”. For my fellow old fogies out there … Twerking is a new and sexual explicit dance.

The students made the video and put it on YouTube. Then someone at Scripps Ranch High School found out and suspended many of the students, forbade some from graduating and going to the prom.

At 10:00 propionates of AB 900 will talk to the press. AB 900 is a California Assembly Bill to exempt “skilled nursing facilities” from Medi-Cal cuts started in 2011.

In court two things of note

First at 8:00 AM the Arraignment of Lance Wright, he is an ex-security guard that is accused of falsely reporting that he got into a gun fight.

Then at 2:00 PM the sentencing for Kevin Kenniston … convicted of posing a police officer and pulling people over.

This afternoon at 2:30 the San Diego Public Library is beginning their Oscar 2012 film series. Today they are showing Argo.

And at 5:00 tonight the 30th annual Fiesta Old Town Cinco de Mayo is starting its three day run. They’ve got all kinds of things going on celebrating Mexican culture in San Diego.

The voice of Charlie Brown pleads guilty to stalking and criminal threats charges. Arrested in January 56-year-old Peter Robbins threatened a doctor that did cosmetic surgery on his girlfriend. Robbins then physically assaulted his girlfriend during a fight over the surgery, and reportedly left threating messages on his girlfriend’s voice mail too. Robbins will be sentenced next month and could be sentenced to up to three years in state prison.

Two sentencing’s today of note

First at 9 AM Paul Thweni will hear his fate. Thweni pleaded guilty to bribing a University of San Diego basketball player in an attempt to fix a game.

And this afternoon at 1:30 Rick C Huffman will be sentenced for burglary in a botched attempt to steal bank customer account info.

Finally this morning at 10:15 the San Diego Unified School District is showing off its new Motion Picture Industry facility at Point Loma High. It’s all part of a program that will give students a professional style place to make their very own movies.

Sticky Floors, Sticky Fingers

Sticky Floors, Sticky Fingers

I have a wallet like George Costanza from Seinfeld. It’s filled with so much, I hate having it in my back pocket when I sit down. That means in movie theatres, I use the cup holder to stick my wallet in. One time it fell through the hole and slid down a few rows. It took me 10 minutes to find it and another 10 minutes to put all the cards back inside it. Another time, at the Grossmont theatres, it was a 10:30 p.m. showing. The movie got out at 12:45 a.m. I was on the I-8 west bound before I realized I left my wallet. I quickly got back there and the place was being mopped. I ran down to the middle section and started looking around. A guy cleaning up near the back just looked at me. Since it wasn’t in the cup holder, I looked…

‘Anchorman’ sequel gets an official release date

‘Anchorman’ sequel gets an official release date

fox5sandiego.com

“Anchorman: The Legend Continues” has an official release date… and it’s one year from today. Paramount Pictures has revealed that the movie will hit theaters on Dec. 20, 2013.

Anchorman, will ferrellSlap on a dab of Sex Panther and get ready to croon some “Afternoon Delight” because, as long as the world doesn’t end tomorrow, we’re going to be seeing a lot more of San Diego’s Channel 4 news team. Director Adam McKay had previously revealed that the forthcoming “Anchorman” sequel will take place during the rise of the 24-hour news cycle, and that the shift will throw Ron Burgundy and his fellow newscasters off guard. Remember when he once though “diversity” was an “old wooden ship”?

“All of a sudden, local news stations diversified and had Latino anchors and African-American anchors, and any time you’re talking about diversity and the Action News team, that’s always fun to deal with,” McKay said
