AM Briefing from Bowlersdesk.com for August 26, 2013

Now that San Diego’s Mayor Bob Filner has resigned and a special election will be called and the story turns to who is going to run for Mayor. Several of San Diego’s power players are defiantly not running. On her way out of the KSWB FOX5 studio after a live morning show interview last Thursday Bonnie Dumanis told me “No and Hell No!”. State Assembly Majority Leader Toni Atkins and San Diego’s City Attorney Jann Goldsmith have also bowed out. But Nathan Fletcher has filed the paperwork to run and is beginning to gather his team. Kevin Faulconer, Carl DeMaio, and Todd Gloria are all considering but have yet to announce.

The USS Pearl Harbor and its 350 sailors are returning to San Diego today. They were helping on the international humanitarian mission Pacific Partnership 2013. They’ve spent 105 days helping Non-Governmental Organizations (or N.G.O.’s) with their work in places like Papua New Guinea, Samoa, and Tonga. they helped give over 18,000 people get medical and dental treatment.

Eastlake Little League All-Stars lost 6 to 4 against Japan in the Little League World Series. Still they are the U.S. Champs … manager Rick Tibbett summed it up best when he said “it’s baseball you know, You lose. You win. We will be playing baseball next weekend.”

Today at 1:00 the deal between San Diego’s Mayor Bob Filner, city officials, and private attorneys will be presented to the City Council for approval in a closed session meeting. Assuming Filner steps down the city council will pick a day for a special election within the next 90 days. Several candidates are starting to emerge. Check out the special podcast here on BowlersDesk.com for more on who could be San Diego’s next mayor with the President of the political action group Run Woman Run.

There are two sentencings worth noting today … both in San Diego’s downtown courthouse.

On August 3rd James Lee DiMaggio killed Hannah’s mother and younger brother then set their home on fire Dimaggio then kidnapped Hannah taking her to a remote Idaho camp site. San Diego’s Mayor Bob Filner and city officials have reached a tentative agreement after three days of mediation regarding the multiple sexual harassment claims made against him. Filner now has 18 accusers saying he behaved inappropriately with them and his former Communications Director is suing him for sexual harassment.

Details of the agreement are not public yet; however the full city council will have to approve it in a special closed door session on Friday at 1:00 PM. After that the details will be made public in an open session meeting.

And finally … the Eastlake Little League All-Stars beat the Westport Little League of Westport, Connecticut last night 6 to 3 advancing to the U.S. Championship game this Saturday.

However Tijuana lost to Tokyo 5-2. The boys from TJ just had an early 2 to 1 lead but Tokyo came back first tying in the fourth then putting Tijuana well in their rear view in the fifth inning with three runs.

There could still be a Tijuana versus Eastlake match up if Tijuana is able to go undefeated today and Saturday. TJ’s muchachos del verano still have a chance.

AM Briefing from Bowlersdesk.com for August 21 2013

Today is day three of Filner watch. San Diego’s infamous mayor is negotiating with the City Attorney, Civil Attorney Gloria Allred, and the city council about the conditions of his resignation. No one, but those in on the negotiations, know exactly what the discussions are about or what conditions Filner wants met for him to resign. The mediator, a retired federal judge, asked everyone to stay quiet.

However the mediation may become a moot point if the recall effort gathers enough signatures. Some think they will have the just under 102,000 signatures by the end of the week.

Will that change Filner’s negotiations?

Or will it make it more difficult to get him to out of office?

This afternoon at 3:00 Scientists from the Hubbs-SeaWorld Research Institute are releasing the two millionth White Sea bass fitted with a tag. The tags help researchers track the fish and aids in their effort to fight the Pacific Ocean’s rapidly declining fish stocks.

And this afternoon at 5:00 Chula Vista’s Eastlake Little League All-Stars will take on the Westport Little League in the lead up to the Little League World Series. The game is going to be shown on ESPN at 5:00 tonight. The winner will go on to the U.S. Championship game this Saturday.

Tijuana’s Little League champs are up against Tokyo’s today at 1:00 PM in Williamsport. Should Chula Vista and Tijuana win there next two games they could face each other in the Little League World Series this Sunday
