AM Briefing from Bowlersdesk.com for April 17, 2013

A father is murdered and San Diego Sheriff’s Homicide Detectives suspect the 22-year-old son. Just before 10:00 last night deputies were called to a Spring Valley home because of a domestic disturbance. The Sheriff office says that the deputies found the father with a stab wound and the son was on the run … Deputies began their hunt. After about an hour someone was taken into custody, however at this time there is no confirmation yet that he is the son or another suspect. What I do have confirmed is that the man in custody is thought to be involved somehow. Sheriff’s Homicide Detectives will send out more info later.

This morning at 8:30 the arraignment for the man accused of kidnapping and Sexually assaulting a woman walking home in the San Diego beach community of Ocean Beach will happen.

And…Cal Fire is having its preparedness drill this morning at 8:00. Fire crews will drill and prepare in anticipation of a busy wildfire year.

Anti XL Pipeline protesters will hit the streets of Coronado this afternoon at 11:45. They are protesting outside a meeting of the American Petroleum Industry or A-P-I. The protestors say that the A-P-I is spreading misinformation about the climate and the proposed X-L Pipeline.

And this evening at 8:00 the University of California at San Diego kicks off Earth Week with a “Trashion Show”. This a fashion show with clothing made from trash.

Crime in San Diego Up For 2013

The San Diego Association of Governments (SANDAG) has released its annual crime report.

The report summarizes crime for the 2012 year.

According to SANDAG crime is up this year, however it is still down over the long term.

In a release SANDAG said:

“The number of homicides across the region saw the greatest one-year increase: 107 homicides were reported in 2012, a 30 percent increase from 2011. Over the past 30 years, homicides in the San Diego region peaked at 278 in 1991 and decreased fairly steadily to 86 in 1998. Since then, the number has fluctuated, but has not dropped below 67 (in 2010) or exceeded 130 (in 2003). “
