The Election is over and some of the notable winners are …

District Attorney Bonnie Dumanis avoids a runoff election by defeating her opponents and getting 55 percent of the vote.

Republican Carl DeMaio and Democrat Scott Peters will slug it out in a runoff election this fall.

The Barrio Logan community plan loses dramatically in a 60 / 40 spit.

And Democrat Sarah Boot loses to Lorie Zapf for San Diego City Council.

Now many of those that won are going to try to say or imply that they have the mandate of the people … they do not. Apathy and record low voter turnout plagued this election. For example people that voted no on the changes to Prop B, the Barrio Logan zoning plan, took the election with nearly 60 percent of the vote. But that means they won by 21,898 votes … in a city of 1 point 3 million people that’s not a lot of votes. That means 1 point 6 percent of San Diegans decided that race.

According to the Registrar of Voters there are still about 98,000 provisional ballots to be counted. For all the election results Google San Diego Registrar of Voters they’ve got all the info.

This afternoon at 1:00 San Diego Mayor Kevin Faulconer and Councilman David Alvarez are talking to the press about improved emergency response times near the Mexican border after a new ambulance was added to the area. They’ll be at the trolley stop next to the border crossing.

In court this afternoon two sentencings of note, both at 1:30 this afternoon.

In Chula Vista’s courthouse Sweetwater school board President Jim Cartmill is officially being sentenced after his guilty plea for taking gifts that exceed the state’s value limit.

Then in San Diego’s courthouse Anthony Elias Estrada will hear his fate for murdering his girlfriend and then setting their home on fire.

And finally tonight at 6:00 24-people that donated kidneys, saving lives, are being honored by Sharp Memorial Hospital at the Town and Country Resort in Mission Valley. It’s on the heels of the hospitals 14th living kidney transplant. A 31-year-old woman gave a kidney to her mom.
