A Marine Corps AV-8B Harrier and a Navy FA-18A crash in separate incidents yesterday.

The Harrier fell out of the sky in the city Imperial destroying three homes, at this time there are no reports of any deaths. The pilot was able to eject and medics have taken him to the hospital.

The Navy plane, an FA-18A, crashed off shore into the ocean. It was trying to land on the aircraft carrier USS Carl Vinson. That pilot was also able to eject and in in stable condition. You probably remember the Vinson because it was the ship that buried Osama bin Laden at sea in 2011.

All across San Diego today people in favor of and people opposed to raising the minimum wage will be talking to the press. Proponents say that $8 dollars an hour is not enough to live on in San Diego and that the minimum should be much higher. Opponents say that it’ll hurt small businesses and drive work out of town.

At 9:00 AM some business owners are going to explain to the press why they support raising the minimum wage. They’ll be in front of Intelicare Direct on Chesapeake Drive.

Then at 10:00 AM San Diego County taxpayers Association and San Diego Regional Chamber of Commerce are releasing a study that they say proves raising the lowest pay will hurt all kinds of businesses. That’ll be near 6th and G in downtown San Diego.

And at 5:30 tonight near the First Unitarian Universalist Church on Front Street supporters of raising the minimum wage will rally. Council President Todd Gloria will speak about a ballot measure he may propose to raise the minimum wage.

At 9:00 AM Heartland Fire and Rescue is giving “hands only CPR” training at El Cajon City Hall, Lemon Grove’s City Hall, Parkway Plaza and Grossmont Center.

About a thousand volunteers are going to clean up the beach celebrating the I Love A Clean San Diego 60th anniversary starting at 9:30 this morning. It’s part of their Kids’ Ocean Day at Crown Point Shores in Mission Bay event.

In Chula Vista’s courthouse this afternoon at 1:30 Dajamah Blevins is being arraigned and accused of sexually assaulting a teenager on a public bus in National City.

And finally tonight at 5:30 at Balboa Stadium the “Jim Ryun Festival of Miles” will celebrate the 50th anniversary of Ryun being the first high schooler to break the 4-minute mile record.

Just before 1:00 AM two semi-trucks collide killing one shutting down the 5 north bound in the Northern San Diego County city of Encinitas. CHP is anticipating the freeway to remain shut for much, if not all, of the morning. According to CHP one of the wrecked trucks was loaded with 50,000 pounds of produce that is now strewn accords the freeway. If you are heading North on the 5 find another rout.

Today is Election Day for California. In San Diego candidates are out campaigning their hearts out in a last minute effort to get your vote. San Diego County’s Registrar of Voters Michael Vu is predicting the extremely low voter turnout of 35 percent or less. Some say it could be even lower, possibly breaking records. Polls open at 7:00 AM

Election Central, the San Diego traditional election night event, will be at Golden Hall tonight and open to the public. Also tonight the Republican support club the Lincoln Club is hosting its election night event in the U.S. Grant Hotel’s Palm Room. And the San Diego County Democratic Party is having its election night watch party at Athens Market Taverna on F Street in downtown.

This morning at 11:30 Doctors from Rady Children’s Hospital will talk to the press about how to encourage expectant mothers to get vaccinated for pertussis. According to the Center for Disease Control “mothers were responsible for 30-40% of infant infections”.

San Diego County Health and Human Services Agency warns everyone that there have already been 450 pertussis cases reported this year alone. That’s a sharp increase from last year’s total of 63.

At noon the San Diego Association of Governments is hosting its 2014 Bi-national Summit. Both American and Mexican government officials are talking about how to make the San Diego/Tijuana region more competitive on a global scale, among other things.

In court today two arraignments of note on the docket for 1:30.

In San Diego’s courthouse Jason Boone is accused of running a methamphetamine ring from the Mission Bay Sports Center. According to police the 41-year-old was the ringleader of a meth sales operation just feet from where kids played. Boone was arrested with eight suspected accomplices.

Then in El Cajon’s courthouse Mohammed Agab will be arraigned and accused for murdering his mother and stabbing his 14-year-old brother.

Chula Vista’s City Council is meeting this afternoon at 2:00. On the agenda is the budget for this coming year.

And finally tonight at 4:00 San Diego Unified School District Board of Education is meeting and on their agenda … Madison High Cluster of Schools, a $1 million dollar donation to upgrade O’Farrell Charter School’s track and turf and reports on construction bonds.

An early morning crash shuts down the Northbound 125 and leaves at least one dead. At around 1:40 AM reports came in that 3 cars collided then about 5 minutes later a fourth one smashed into the wreckage. California Highway Patrol has the Northbound 125 shutdown from H Street to the 54. Traffic is being diverted onto surface streets. Just avoid this area all together.

Yesterday a federal court reversed a lower court decision that denied a San Diego journalist the right to carry a concealed gun. The three-judge panel from 9th Circuit Court of Appeals voted 2 to 1 overturning the lower court’s ruling and sending the case back down to the lower courts. The appeals court says that San Diego’s policy requiring a specific reason for wanting the gun is too restrictive. Judge O’Scannlain says “Given this requirement, the `typical’ responsible, law-abiding citizen in San Diego County cannot bear arms in public for self-defense.”

It is Valentine’s Day and the San Diego County Clerk’s office says they will be open at 8:00 AM and take walk in’s for anyone that wants to get married. Only the main office is taking walk in’s. So if you want to get married today and you don’t have an appointment take your $70 and head over to 1600 Pacific Highway in Downtown San Diego. If you don’t have a witness to come with you bring along and extra $18.

This morning is Vista’s courthouse Javier Covarrubias is hearing his fate for stabbing two people during a gang fight outside a mall in Carlsbad the day after Thanksgiving .

The Salvation Army is hosting a senior citizen Valentine’s Day lunch at their Chula Vista location.

And finally tonight at 7:00 the inaugural San Diego Improv Festival kicks off with two dozen improv teams from all over the U.S. All the fun is at Finest City Improv at 4250 Louisiana St.

Three San Diego based crewmen are OK after their helicopter crashed in the Red Sea. Why the MH-60S Nighthawk helicopter crashed is still under investigation, but the Navy says they do not suspect “hostile action” to be the cause. And the search is continuing for two other crew members that are still missing.

Alex Charfauros … Convicted of second-degree murder in connection to the 2010 shooting of San Diego Police Officer Christopher Wilson … Will hear his fate in San Diego’s downtown courthouse at 8:30 this morning. He’s facing life in prison

Two arraignments in San Diego’s downtown courthouse at 1:30 this afternoon.

First: Hans Peterson will be arraigned for shooting two people in two separate La Jolla homes, hours apart.

Second: Noah Ehlinger is being arraigned for reportedly trying to shoot a romantic rival.

In El Cajon’s courthouse at 1:30 PM Tassie Behrens will be arraigned on child abuse and drug violations following the drowning of her two toddlers in a friends pool.

San Diego’s city council is busy today.

First at 10:00 AM Council members Sherri Lightner, Marti Emerald, and Mark Kersey are talking to the press about the city’s disaster preparedness.

Then this afternoon at 2:00 the whole council meets and top of the agenda is the Independent Budget Analyst’s report on infrastructure. That’s sure to make it into the mayoral campaigns of all the candidates.

And finally this morning at 8:00 am golfers will attempt to win $1,000,000 in the finals for the LM Capital Group $1 Million Hole-in-One Shootout at the Carlton Oaks Golf Course in Santee. The Holiday Bowl origination puts on the event and in its 24-years no one has ever won.

[trib_ndn vid=24622603]SAN DIEGO — Police searched Tuesday for the owner of a luxury Italian sports car that crashed along a La Jolla roadside and was abandoned by its two occupants, reportedly only hours after it was bought for almost a quarter of a million dollars.

Crashed LamborghiniOfficers found the banged up 2008 Lamborghini Murcielago on the side of La Jolla Village Drive near La Jolla Scenic Drive North about 11:45 p.m. Monday, according to San Diego police.

Witnesses reported seeing the car speeding on Interstate 5 before it flew off the La Jolla Village Drive exit and crashed, police said, adding that witnesses also saw a man and a woman exit the car.

Officers told news photographer Paul Anderegg that they found paperwork in the car showing it was purchased for almost $220,000 just hours before the crash. Police said they were staking out an address listed on the paperwork in…

This morning the San Diego Zoo’s panda cub Xiao Liwu will have his first snow day.

In court … the preliminary hearing for a man accused of having sex with multiple teenage girls …and testimony begins in the mental competency hearing for David Zepeda, he’s accused of stealing $6 million in a foreclosure scam

San Diego County Board of Supervisors meets today on the agenda … a plan to help the homeless and rooster regulations. Yes I said roosters.

And the city council is meeting too … they’ll be talking about supporting the Tourism Marketing District and a proclamation honoring the San Diego Festival of Science and Engineering.

Finally this morning at Cathedral Catholic High School a mass is being held for the family involved in a horrible head on collision Sunday night. The School’s head basketball coach’s family was injured in the crash. The mother and three kids were hit head on by a wrong way driver on the freeway and suffered major injuries. Mom and two of the kids are in stable condition wile one child is in the ICU

TIJUANA — From a gated yard on a gritty street in this border city, white-paneled tour buses would set out for Disneyland, Knott’s Berry Farm and other California destinations.

When the time came for Scapadas Magicas to undergo its annual U.S. inspection in January, the bus company reported that its terminal was in San Diego — at an address that did not exist. Soon afterward, Scapadas Magicas did present two buses for inspection by the California Highway Patrol, which found them to be in working order and cleared them for operation.

Two and a half weeks later, one of the company’s buses — one it did not bring to the inspection — rolled over on Highway 38 in San Bernardino County, killing seven people returning from a trip to Big Bear and the driver of another vehicle.

While the cause of the crash remains under investigation, the accident has opened…
