AM Briefing from Bowlersdesk.com for October 11, 2013

San Diego Convention Center expansion cleared its last regulatory hurdle yesterday. The California Coastal Commission staffer’s initially recommended denying the request to expand the convention center because of worries that access to the bay would be limited. However San Diego leaders like the interim Mayor Todd Gloria were able to convince the commission that bay access could be managed. Gloria also says that the expansion will be a job creator and bring $13.5 million in tax revenues. Detractors still threaten a law suit saying the expansion is illegal. So while planning may be moving forward more fighting could be in our future.

This morning at 8:30 the California Coastal Commission is finishing up its three-day run of meeting. The one thing of note for this morning is a request by former presidential candidate Mitt Romney to remodel his La Jolla home. Romney’s home is in an exclusive and very expensive part of La Jolla with its backyard giving off to the beach.

Transportation projects are on the agenda for San Diego’s Association of Governments Board of Directors this morning at 10:00.

And tonight at 5:00 Saint Maximilian Kolbe Roman Catholic Polish Mission on Grand Ave in Pacific Beach is kicking off its three-day Polish Festival. Beer, Food, Music, and Dancing!
