AM Briefing from Bowlersdesk.com for May 14, 2014

Hundreds of acres burned and thousands of San Diegans evacuated to safety as hot dry Santa Anna winds fuel a fire dangerously close to homes. Late last night the evacuation orders were lifted and people were allowed to return to their homes. However the fire, called the Bernardo Fire, is still only 5% contained. Yesterday Poway Unified School District administrators evacuated students from Del Sur, Stone Ranch and Willow Grove elementary schools Students at Del Norte High School and at Oak Valley middle school stayed in classrooms as precautions. However as of this morning all schools in the Poway Unified School District are open.

San Diego Fire-Rescue Department Chief Javier Mainar says “It is unusual in May to have wind-driven fires like this that are such a challenge to contain”

As the morning comes the atmosphere will warm up and winds are expected to grow in speed. Today the National Weather Service is expecting temperatures to top 100 and wind speeds to gust as fast as 65-miles-per-hour. We will get an update on the fire as soon as the sun comes up.
