Two more San Diego Police officers are under arrest. This time they are accused of drug crimes. San Diego Sheriff’s Deputies arrested husband and wife officers late yesterday morning. 32-year-old Bryce Charpentier and his wife 41-year-old Jennifer were arrested for and are being accused of conspiring to sell and transport a controlled substance. Sheriff’s department says that San Diego Police Department is fully cooperating with the investigation. This is the latest in a long run of officers being accused of criminal behavior.

At 9:00 AM several business owners are talking to the press about why they think the minimum wage should be higher. San Diego City Council takes up the issue in committee next week.

This morning at 10:00 AM San Diego County Regional Airport Authority is briefing the press about its development plans through 2035.

California state senator Toni Atkins is hosting her local swearing-in ceremony for her new job as speaker of the Legislature this morning at 10:00. The San Diego Democrat is already officially the speaker but this celebration is for the San Diego Community. It’s at the Balboa Park Club.

In Encinitas’s Scripps Memorial Hospital at 10:00 AM law enforcement from across the county will train at an “Active Shooter” drill. One of the things they’re doing is practicing some of their life saving techniques of fake gunshot victims.

At UC San Diego at noon today is the annual watermelon drop. Every year a watermelon is dropped from seven stories up for the end of school tradition.

Habitat for Humanity is dedicating three homes their volunteers built in just five-days, at 3:00 this afternoon in Escondido. One of the houses has gone to a wounded veteran.

Tonight at 5:00 one of San Diego’s magnet schools, Green Elementary, is breaking ground on its new track.

And finally tonight at 6:00 the group Save Our Heritage Organization is giving out its annual People in Preservation Awards. The awards recognize people that help maintain San Diego County historic buildings.

San Diego’s Top Gun themed tax video staring Mayor Faulconer, Councilman Todd Gloria, and former mayor Jerry Sanders.

Every year the San Diego County Taxpayers Associating hosts an annual event called “Annual Golden Fleece & Watchdog Awards”.

But it’s got a San Diego twist. Every year the Taxpayers Association along with some of San Diego’s top politicos produce their own video promoting the event and lampooning the news and politics.

This year’s Top Gun themed video starts our former mayor Jerry Sander, current mayor Kevin Faulconer and City Council president Todd Gloria.

Police are asking everyone to keep their eyes out for a missing disabled 49-year-old man. Charles Ahnger has Down syndrome, early onset dementia, and limited ability to communicate. Ahnger went missing while on a day trip to Fashion Valley Mall with his social worker and other challenged adults. Police say that it’s possible he got on a bus and just rode away. Ahnger is a white male, five feet tall, 188 pounds, brown hair and eyes. Anyone with any info please call San Diego Police at (619) 531-2000.

This morning at 8:00 the San Diego 2024 Summer Olympic Exploratory Committee’s President Bill Earley and Chairman Vincent Mudd are meeting with a local group that encourages minorities to be leaders called LEAD San Diego. They’ll be in the End Zone Club at Qualcomm Stadium.

What is being done to ensure that we meet the technical requirements?

What we can expect hosting the Olympics to do for our region?

How can we pay for it?

At 8:00 AM 20-years of the North American Free Trade Agreement or NAFTA is the topic at the Sanford Consortium Auditorium on Torrey Pines Scenic Dr. Some of the people speaking at the event are Janet Napolitano, UC San Diego Chancellor Pradeep Khosla and former Mexican Ambassador to the U.S. Arturo Sarukhan.

At 9:30 this morning the Center on Policy Initiatives is releasing its report about how much it costs for a family to make ends meet in San Diego.

At 10:30 AM newly inaugurated Mayor Kevin Faulconer is having his first press conference. He’s talking about how to archive old city’s emails, a visit to Tijuana, and he’s introducing his communications team.

This afternoon at 2:00 protesters are rallying for a raise in the minimum wage. The group called the Coalition for Labor and Community Solidarity is targeting McDonald’s restaurants across the country. In San Diego they’ll be at 1260 Park Avenue

Disgraced former San Diego Police officer Anthony Arevalos is asking to be released pending his appeal at 9:00 AM in San Diego’s courthouse. Arevalos was convicted of sexually assaulting women during traffic stops. Just last month he had two counts overturned because some evidence wasn’t given to the defense.

Then at 1:30 in Vista’s courthouse Michael Young is being arraigned for beating his brother to death. Two fundraisers tonight …

First at 5:30 raising money for disadvantaged and at-risk youth is the goal at the 44th annual Barrio Station benefit dinner.

And second Employment and Community Options is hosting “Taste of Our Community” to raise money to help the disabled get jobs and live independently.

Today is the first day for the 8th Annual San Diego FIRST® Robotics Competition at the Valley View Casino Center.

High school’ers from all over the world will test their robots in some unusual and interesting ways. First thing from 8:00 AM till noon the robots are inspected then they get to practice the rest of the afternoon.

And finally tonight at 7:00 it’s the first San Diego Film Awards. Filmmakers, cast and crew are crowding into the Horton Grand Theater to honor each other’s work.

The jury continues to deliberate in the retrial of Stephen Dragasits. He is accused of shooting at random people as they drove along the freeway. The first trial was declared a mistrial because of a hung jury.

At 10:00 AM San Diego’s Mayor Bob Filner is talking to the press about increasing funding for homeless veteran programs.

Then at 2:00 PM San Diego’s City Council is having a special meeting. They are working on a five year labor deal. First they will take public comment then go into a closed door meeting

The Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design or LEED San Diego is having its 11th annual Visionary Awards tonight at 5:00 at the Hilton San Diego Bayfront. Those to be honored … Irwin Jacobs, former Mayor Jerry Sanders, and Tijuana Mayor Carlos Bustamante.

At noon San Diego County Crime Stoppers is recognizing 18 law enforcement officials in their “Enough is Enough” awards.

Chula Vista Police is meeting with prospective officer recruits. If you’re interested in a career in law enforcement head over to Chula Vista’s City Hall tonight at 6:00, they’ll have all kinds of info for you.

At 3:00 this afternoon a lifeguard memorial statue will be dedicated. At over six feet tall the bronze sculpture by Richard Arnold recognizes San Diego’s Lifeguards. It’s placed at the Ocean Beach Lifeguard Station near the foot of Santa Monica Avenue.

And finally tonight at 6:00 San Diego’s Save our Heritage Organization is giving out its People In Preservation Awards. They honor people they believe help to save San Diego’s historic structures.
