Two more San Diego Police officers are under arrest. This time they are accused of drug crimes. San Diego Sheriff’s Deputies arrested husband and wife officers late yesterday morning. 32-year-old Bryce Charpentier and his wife 41-year-old Jennifer were arrested for and are being accused of conspiring to sell and transport a controlled substance. Sheriff’s department says that San Diego Police Department is fully cooperating with the investigation. This is the latest in a long run of officers being accused of criminal behavior.

At 9:00 AM several business owners are talking to the press about why they think the minimum wage should be higher. San Diego City Council takes up the issue in committee next week.

This morning at 10:00 AM San Diego County Regional Airport Authority is briefing the press about its development plans through 2035.

California state senator Toni Atkins is hosting her local swearing-in ceremony for her new job as speaker of the Legislature this morning at 10:00. The San Diego Democrat is already officially the speaker but this celebration is for the San Diego Community. It’s at the Balboa Park Club.

In Encinitas’s Scripps Memorial Hospital at 10:00 AM law enforcement from across the county will train at an “Active Shooter” drill. One of the things they’re doing is practicing some of their life saving techniques of fake gunshot victims.

At UC San Diego at noon today is the annual watermelon drop. Every year a watermelon is dropped from seven stories up for the end of school tradition.

Habitat for Humanity is dedicating three homes their volunteers built in just five-days, at 3:00 this afternoon in Escondido. One of the houses has gone to a wounded veteran.

Tonight at 5:00 one of San Diego’s magnet schools, Green Elementary, is breaking ground on its new track.

And finally tonight at 6:00 the group Save Our Heritage Organization is giving out its annual People in Preservation Awards. The awards recognize people that help maintain San Diego County historic buildings.

One man is dead and a high school wrestling coach is under arrest. San Diego Police say that Madison High School wrestling Coach 42-year-old Jeret Needham shot another man in the Bay Park neighborhood. Needham briefly barricaded himself in a house but he eventually surrendered to Police. San Diego Police will update the media at 9:00 am this morning.

San Diego’s politicos will be busy today.

First San Diego’s City Council’s Rules and Economic Development Committee is getting together at 9:00 AM. On the agenda a presentation from the City Clerk and election issues then a possible overhaul of the Council’s committee system.

Then at 2:00 the Council’s Natural Resource and Culture Committee will talk about our region’s water management plan.

San Diego County Board of Supervisors is meeting at 9:00 this morning to talk about renewable energy and improving the runway at McClellan-Palomar Airport.

And this afternoon at 1:00 Civic San Diego Board of Directors is talking about the convention center expansion and renovations at Horton Plaza.

Three big education stories this morning.

First San Diego Unified School District will learn if they won the 2013 Board Prize for Urban Education at 8:00 AM. SDUSD is one of four finalists for the $550,000 prize.

Second professor Phil Baran from the Scripps Research Institute is a MacArthur Fellow. The 36-year-old will get $625,000 over the next five years to help his chemistry research. Baran is most known for synthesizing natural products en masse.

And finally this morning at 10:30 San Diego Community College District is breaking ground for the new Cesar E. Chavez campus in Barrio Logan. When done the new facility will have 22 classrooms for all kinds of education from English as a second language to business technology.

After three days the Coast Guard is canceling the search for a missing boater. 52-year-old Loren Ruden’s boat was found adrift and his dog was rescued from the surf but Ruden a father of three is nowhere to be found. However one of the boat’s life jackets was missing and the family is holding out hope that he wore it. The Coast Guard stopped looking for him after searching 600 square miles.

An elementary school principal is under arrest for suspicion of possessing both a stolen gun and drugs. Over the weekend San Diego Police arrested 45-year-old Rachel Yolanda Escobedo after officers say they found her sitting in a car with an open bottle of vodka and some pot in the ashtray. Then San Diego Police says the officer then got permission from Escobedo to search her trunk where a loaded .22 was found along with pills and a substance resembling crystal meth. Escobedo went to work on Monday at Lee Elementary School, however when San Diego Unified School District learned of the arrest she was placed on leave.

At 11:00 AM San Diego tourism officials will show the press what the planned Convention Center expansion will look like.

At the California Center for the Arts in Escondido today at noon business leaders in North San Diego County will honor law enforcement and raise money for several charities.

At High Tech High this afternoon at 1:00 an official from the U.S. Department of Education is leading a roundtable about how families and the communities can move digital learning forward.

Castle Park High School is hosting the annual Sweetwater Education Summit at 5:00 tonight. One of the hot topics …. school security.

And finally this morning at 10:00 Oceanside is celebrating Arbor Day with an environmental fair at Buddy Todd Park.

[trib_ndn vid=24375869]SAN DIEGO — An English teacher was arrested for allegedly bringing a gun and knife to Farb Middle School in San Diego’s Tierrasanta neighborhood, school officials said.

Seventh- and eighth-grade English instructor Ned Carter Walker, 41, was taken into custody in a parking lot at the Tierrasanta school Monday morning and booked into county jail, according to San Diego Unified School District officials. He later posted $50,000 bail and was released on his own recognizance.

Ned-WalkerSDUSD police Chief Rueben Littlejohn told reporters that the school shooting in Sandy Hook, Conn., may have played a part in Walker’s decision to bring a loaded .380-caliber pistol and a knife with a 2 1/2-inch blade onto the school grounds.  He said that whatever the motive, bringing a weapon to a school campus is a felony.
