AM Briefing from Bowlersdesk.com for February 13, 2014

A skateboarder is dead and a 17-year-old girl is under arrest. According to witnesses late last night just before 11:00 in the intersection of Palomar Airport Road and Carlsbad boulevard the skater was hit by a silver Chrysler sedan that sped off after the accident. Police found the car about a mile away and arrested the teen driver.

The record setting cold and stormy weather on the east coast is hitting home in San Diego. Many flights in and out of San Diego have been canceled, delayed, or diverted. Flights coming from or heading to airports in New York, Baltimore, D.C., or any of the airports in the storm affected swath across the east coast are affecting arrivals and departures in San Diego. For those trying to get here I bet it’s really disappointing, for those trying to leave probably not so bad. San Diego is expecting clear skies and tempters in the mid 70’s today.

Better here than there.

Food trucks and medical marijuana are today’s topics for Interim Mayor Todd Gloria’s press conference at 10:00 AM.

Then at 1:00 this afternoon San Diego County Water Authority’s Board of Directors is meeting about how they are going to deal with California’s drought.

At 2:00 PM San Diego City Council’s Economic Development and Intergovernmental Relations Committee is getting together for a special meeting. They are going to talk about one of their economic development plans, and the city’s hiring practices.

At 12:30 this afternoon the Coast Guard Cutter Boutwell is coming back to San Diego after two-moths at sea in the Eastern Pacific. While out they caught drug smugglers and saved three stranded fishermen.

Two notable arraignments in court today, both at 1:30 PM.

In Chula Vista’s courthouse Ramiro Espinoza is being arraigned and accused of shooting his ex-girlfriend with her 4-year-old very close by.

And in El Cajon’s courthouse Samuel Remson and Dominique Woods are being arraigned for supposedly stealing mail from over 100 people.

Tonight at 5:00 San Diego’s Armed Services YMCA is hosting is annual Father & Daughter Dance. They’re expecting 450 fathers and daughters.

And finally also at 5:00 PM the San Diego Military Advisory Council is celebrating its 10th anniversary at PETCO Park.

AM Briefing from Bowlersdesk.com for December 11, 2013

Two helicopter squads come home today. Heavy Sea Combat Squadron 6 the “Screaming Indians” and Helicopter Maritime Strike Squadron 75 “WoldPack” will arrive at Naval Air Station North Island this morning at 8:15.

In court two cases of note

First at 1:30 this afternoon in San Diego’s downtown courthouse Kevin Bollaert is being arraigned for posting sensitive photos of women on a revenge porn website. Revenge porn is when a person (usually a man) posts a reveling and personal photo of another person (usually a woman) in an attempt to “slut shame” them and usually it’s because of a romance gone wrong. However in this case Bollaert is accused of not just posting the images, but trying to extort money from the victims to remove them. Allegedly he was asking for $300 per image for their removal.

Also at 1:30 but in Vista’s courthouse Rober Bejaran will hear his fate for murdering two teens at an Oceanside park.

San Diego City Council’s Rules and Economic Development Committee is meeting at 9 AM. They’re talking about a three-year economic development plan and a lobbying program.

This morning at 5:30 the Armed Services YMCA is honoring military parents. It’s the 27th Annual SuperParent Holiday Toy event, where military parents get to shop for donated toys and gift cards. The whole thing is superhero-themed.

Then at 5:00 tonight San Diego’s North Chamber of Commerce is collecting bedding for Escondido’s Interfaith Community Services.

In Alpine at 6:00 tonight organizers from the 38th Annual East County Toy Drive will announce if they’ve reached their 10,000 toy goal or not. Last year they collated 7,500 toys.

And finally tonight at 8:00 the North Coast Repertory Theatre is giving a preview of is holiday show “The Humbug Holiday Spectacular”
