Welcome to another Political Podcast from

This time Ric Epps and I sat down with Mayoral candidate Nathan Fletcher.

This is Nathan’s second bite at the mayoral apple. We talked about everything from the economy, to the federal shutdown, and beer.

To me his campaign doesn’t seem to be that different substantively this time around, with the exception of his staff.

Reaching across the aisle and working with other is a main theme.

His campaign wants voters to see him as the boss you like. Firm but fair.

You be the judge.

AM Briefing from for January 17, 2013

Non-stop flights between San Diego and Tokyo are canceled because the Federal Aviation Administration grounded the Boeing 787. The 787 or Dreamliner’s wings were clipped because of safety concerns raised after an All Nippon Airways (or A-N-A) flight was forced to make an emergency landing because of an electrical fire. This is not Boeing’s first problem with the Dreamliner. Early on in productions fuel leaks were an issue. Around 50 787’s around the world are affected.

A 29-year-old San Diego man is suing the Boy Scouts of America claiming he was sexually abused by a Scout leader in the 1990’s. A FOX5 San Diego report by Christian De La Rosa says that not only does the suit ask for money but it also demands that the Scouts release the names of Scout leaders accused of child sexual abuse.

And today winds gusting up to 60 miles per hour are expected to scrub San Diego’s mountains and coast. Coming from the northeast to east, the winds will peak at around 10 A-M but could continue all day and possibly into the night.

San Diego Plane Crash Latest

Hello. I am back after some time off.

Here’s the latest on the plane crash at the Admiral Baker Golf Course in the Tierrasanta neighborhood of San Diego.

A mother is dead, a father is in a coma and their three children are in critical condition following the crash of their home-built airplane.

According to San Diego Fire at around 1 PM the single engine Velocity Super XLRG5 crashed next to the 11th hole of the military run golf course. The mother died at the scene, two of the family members were in such bad shape they had to be transported by helicopter to the hospital, and the other two were taken by ambulance.

The father Gregory Crane a pilot flew to San Diego to pick up his wife, Lori, and daughters 11-year-old Summer and 10-year-old Tia and son 8-year-old Austin.

According to the FAA just after takeoff, at about 12:45, the pilot notified the control tower at Montgomery Field that a door fell off of his plane and that he was making his way back for an emergency landing. Contact with the pilot was lost and the crash was reported a few minutes later.

The FAA web site has a statement regarding their regulation or lack of regulation for home-built or kit planes.
“The FAA does not certify aircraft kits nor approve kit manufacturers. However, the FAA does perform evaluations to determine if an aircraft built from a kit will meet the “major portion” requirement of 14 CFR section 21.191(g). Here is the List of Amateur-Built Aircraft Kits that have been evaluated by the FAA.”
