New Law Lets Community Colleges Offer 4-Year Bachelor Degrees

“One of the many laws Gov. Jerry Brown signed into law over the weekend makes it possible for some community colleges to offer bachelor degrees. California Senate Bill 850 is being called a higher education game changer.

On the bill’s long journey into law, not one person voted “no” in any of its committees or on either floor of the state Senate or Assembly.

The new law allows the California chancellor of community colleges to choose 15 community colleges to be the first California community colleges to offer a bachelor’s degree.”
