AM Briefing from Bowlersdesk.com for June 16, 2014

The USS Cape St. George and its 350 officers and sailors are leaving San Diego this morning. They are on their way to participate in the massive naval exercise called RIMPAC, for Rim of the Pacific. Over 25,000 service members from 23 countries are participating in this, the 24th multinational maritime exercise. From June 26th to August 1st the multinational armada of ships will train near the Hawaiian Islands.

This afternoon at 2:00 San Diego City Council will take up a proposal to raise the minimum wage. The proposal, being spearheaded by Council President Todd Gloria, is to set San Diego’s lowest pay at $13.09 an hour. Opponents to the raise are rallying before the council meeting at 1:30 in Civic Center Plaza. The group of business owners say that if the minimum wage is raised it’ll hurt their ability to stay in business and provide jobs. If the proposal makes it through council it’ll be put on November’s ballot.

At 3:00 this afternoon you can watch the U.S. play Ghana in the World Cup Tournament at the park at PETCO park. The new 17 by 29 foot wide big screen at the park will show the match. Before the U.S. match you can also watch Mexico vs Brazil at noon.

And finally tonight at 7:30 telling the stories of six San Diego women will take center stage at the 21th annual Lipinsky Family San Diego Jewish Arts Festival. It’s called “Women of Valor”.
