AM Briefing from for April 1, 2014

Rain and wind are coming into San Diego this morning. The National Weather Service says that winds could gust at speeds up to 65-miles-per-hour in San Diego County’s mountains and deserts. Scattered showers are expected along the cost this morning and a slim chance this afternoon. A second wave of rainy weather is expected Wednesday morning.

Today is opening day for the San Diego Padres. Last Sunday they played their “Opening Night” game and today’s game at 3:40 will be the first “Day-Game”. This is the 10th anniversary of PETCO Park in downtown San Diego and the Padres are facing the Dodgers.

In El Cajon’s courthouse at 9:00 AM opening statements in the trial of 49-year-old Kassim Alhimidi starts. He’s accused of beating his 32-year-old wife Shaima Alawadi to death. The couple are Iraqi immigrants, and when her body was found there was a note that read “This is my country, go back to yours, terrorist.” However the couple’s 18-year-old daughter says that her parents were having problems and Alawadi was trying to get a divorce. Their daughter also says that the night her mother was killed she heard a short squeal and sometime later found her mother’s beaten body on the kitchen floor and called 911.

And finally tonight at 6:00 the American Association of Political Consultants starts its four-day conference.
