Stolen memorial plaques returned
NATIONAL CITY, Calif. – Three brass war memorial plaques stolen from Kimball Park in National City last week were discovered in the parking lot of Park Haven Apartments in San Ysidro Saturday night.
A resident of the apartment complex, Alvino Bascon, called National City police to report the plaques he found leaning up against the chain link fence in the parking lot. Before calling police, Bascon said he did not know the plaques had been stolen. “I thought it was kind of odd to have something like that being that big and that heavy [left in a parking lot]. It seemed pretty important, and it looked like they had been pried out of a wall,” Bascon said.
The plaques were transferred to the National City Police Department to be investigated further. National City Mayor Ron Morrison said fingerprints would likely be checked in hopes to lead officers to those responsible…
