Police shoot a 28-year-old suspect and one San Diego Patrolman and four deputy U.S. Marshals suffer minor injuries yesterday evening at around 8:00 PM. The suspect was wanted in a multi-agency search and found sitting in the driver’s seat of a white VW Jetta in Point Loma. SDPD Lieutenant Jorge Duran says that when officers tried to arrest him the suspect rammed two police unmarked and one marked police cars then he hit an SDPD officer in the leg. Officers fired time at and hit the suspect many times. The suspect was wanted for weapons and narcotics charges, and is in serious but stable condition at the hospital.

President Obama is coming to San Diego this May 8th. Qualcomm co-founder Irwin Jacobs will host the president for a $10,000 per-person fundraiser for the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee. House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi is also supposed to be there.

Authorities are warning us about a small measles outbreak. San Diego County Health and Human Services Agency says that the outbreak has grown by one and that others may have been exposed. Agency officials say people may have been exposed to the virus on …

Teachers in the Sweetwater Education Association are voting whether or not they’ll strike. The voting runs today from 7:00 AM till 7:00 PM and tomorrow from 6:00 AM till 7:00 PM. The union and the Sweetwater School District have been in negotiations for over a year and still haven’t come to an agreement. One of the major sticking points is the healthcare contribution.

Stopping human trafficking is the topic of a press conference the District Attorney and Chula Vista Police are giving this morning at 10:00.

In court this afternoon at 1:30 two arraignments of note. Karate instructor Juan Melesio Floes is being arraigned in San Diego’s courthouse for allegedly molesting two of his students.

And in Chula Vista’s courthouse Brandon Lee Mason is being arraigned for allegedly stabbing his girlfriend because he thought she was cheating on him.

This afternoon at 3:00 a traveling replica of D.C.’s Vietnam War Memorial is opening with a ceremony at Tuna Harbor Park.

Also at 3:00 PM school gardens are getting some new fruit and vegetable plants from the Resource Conservation District of Greater San Diego County.

And finally at 6:00 tonight the World Resource Sim Center is hosting a forum about globalizing San Diego’s brand.

[trib_ndn vid=25709679]CHULA VISTA, Calif. — The Sweetwater School District and its teachers reached an impasse Wednesday while negotiating a new contract. They’ve been talking for almost a year with no deal in sight.

Sweetwater is the second largest district in the county operating 26 high schools and middle schools.

TEACHER STRIKE SINGSThe union representing the teachers, the Sweetwater Education Association, has called for a strike vote to take place Thursday and Friday. If teachers approve this drastic negotiating measure, the union could call for a work stoppage at any point in the near future.

“They have yet to make the argument there’s no money at this point, in fact, we know they have money to pay for our proposal and we know they’re getting more money next year,” said Roberto Rodriguez, the union’s president.

Rodriguez said the district also wants teachers to pay a lot more for medical benefits.

SAN DIEGO — A small outbreak of measles has grown, with a man potentially exposing others at four locations, the San Diego County Health and Human Services Agency announced Wednesday.

The unidentified man is the third person to catch measles from someone who contracted the illness while visiting the Philippines, according to the HHSA.

Irwin Jacobs to host Obama at La Jolla fundraiser


SAN DIEGO — President Barack Obama is expected to attend a political fundraiser in May at the La Jolla home of Qualcomm co-founder Irwin Jacobs.

Irwin Jacobs Jacobs, whose estimated net worth is $1.6 billion, was one of the top five financial supporters of Obama’s reelection campaign in 2012. He stepped down as chairman of Qualcomm — the mobile chip maker — five years ago.

The $10,000-per-person fundraiser is set for May 8 and will benefit the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, according to an invitation obtained by The Associated Press. Couples who donate $32,400, the legal maximum, will be invited to a VIP reception and photo opportunity.

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi is also slated to attend.
