AM Briefing from for February 11, 2014

Today is Election Day in San Diego. Kevin Faulconer and David Alvarez will be out for their final push in the special election for mayor. Polls have the candidates in a statistical dead heat. It’s going to be very interesting to see who is able to bring out the votes. Polls open at 7:00 AM

Candidate Alvarez is voting at Calvary Baptist Church at 7:00 AM then he and his supporters are campaigning and riding bikes around town for the morning.

Candidate Faulconer is voting at the Sixth Church of Christ Scientist at 7:00 AM then he’s meeting with his supporters at campaign headquarters at 1:00 this afternoon.

Tonight at 8:00 both the candidates are watching the numbers come in with their supporters. Faulconer will be at the Grant Hotel’s Palm Court Room in downtown. Alvarez is at the San Diego Public Market on National Avenue.

There is political news besides the mayoral election today believe it or not.

At 1:00 PM the Port of San Diego Board of Commissioners is talking about San Diego’s bids for the 2017 America’s Cup and 2024 Olympics.

This afternoon at 2:00 City Council for the southernmost city in San Diego County, Chula Vista, is meeting. They’re talking about a resolution to move a power substation and putting more power lines underground.

And finally tonight at 5:00 San Diego Unified School District Board of Education is meeting about new kindergarten eligibility rules and summer school programs.
