AM Briefing from for January 10, 2014

A San Diego man is one of those missing after Navy helicopter crashed of shore in Virginia. 39-year-old Lt. Sean Christopher Snyder of the east San Diego County city of Santee is one of the five sailors in a MH-53E Sea Dragon helicopter that crashed Wednesday morning around 11:00. Coast Guard searched a 500-square-mile area but have been unable to find Snyder’s body. The search was called off yesterday at 3:30 in the afternoon. In a statement Snyder’s family says that he was a “dedicated husband, and a father, who is proud and grateful for his privilege to serve his country in the United States Navy.”

Late yesterday morning 40-year-old man is in critical condition after being shot by police officers after leading police on a high speed chase through San Diego. Initially police wanted to pull him over for talking on his cell phone while driving. In the mist of the chase police learned that the car matched a description of a car involved in a shooting that wounded two men. The suspect came to a stop near the 800 block of 41st street and according to officers raised a gun. That’s when officers opened fire. His name has not been released … is in critical condition and an update on his condition is expected later this morning.

This morning at 8:45 in San Diego’s courthouse Jelaan Miles is being sentenced for posting threatening messages online saying he wanted to kill his coworkers and bosses at Pomerado Hospital.

The start of San Diego’s city wide sidewalk condition assessment is the topic of a 10:15 AM press conference with interim Mayor Todd Gloria and Councilman Mark Kersey.

And finally the Spring Home and Garden Show starts its three day event this morning at 10:00.
