Cops shoot suspect after high-speed chase
[trib_ndn vid=25510738]SAN DIEGO — A high-speed chase ended Thursday morning when police shot the driver and took a woman passenger into custody, authorities said.
The chase began at 54th and Grape streets in the Oak Park neighborhood at about 8:30 a.m., according San Diego police Lt. Kevin Mayer. An officer pulled the car over because the driver was talking on a cell phone. When the officer ran the license plate of the 2002 two-door Saturn sedan, her learned it was connected to an assault on Jan. 6 in Mountain View neighborhood in which two people were shot.
The driver took off with police in hot pursuit. The chase, which reached speed of more than 80 mph in heavy traffic, went on for almost an hour.
During the pursuit, the man ran red lights and weaved throughout several neighborhoods, including Oak Park, National City, Bonita and Paradise Hills, according to Mayer…
