One San Diego’s most famous non-human residents will be represented in tomorrow’s Tournament of Roses parade in Pasadena. An animatronic version of Meatball the Bear will be riding aboard the city of Glendale float themed “Let’s Be Neighbors”. Meatball is a 400-pound black bear that was caught rummaging through a Los Angeles County neighborhood. He got his name because he was seen eating some frozen Costco meatballs. Since his capture Meatball has been living at the East San Diego County Lions Tigers & Bears animal sanctuary.

This morning at 9:30 in Del Mar surfing dog Ricochet is ringing in the New Year by surfing with disabled veterans. One of his wave buddies is a veteran who served two tours in Iraq.

And finally tonight San Diego County’s two main transit systems are offering expanded service to get you crazy New Year’s Eve partier’s home safe. There will be more buses and more trolleys. If you’re in North County check gonctd.com or If you’re in San Diego check sdmts.com.
