AM Briefing from for Friday December 27, 2013

At 10:30 this morning Interim Mayor Todd Gloria along and Caltrans representatives are talking to the press about making the Laurel Street bridge into Balboa Park pedestrian only.

Then at 11:00 AM near the ice rink at Horton Plaza a signature-gathering effort is starting to get rid of a one point five percent fee on new construction in San Diego. Money from the fee is used to build affordable housing. The fee was restored to its original one point five percent by a five to four city council vote. It was halved in 1996. Now developers want to take the issue to the voters. They say it amounts to a jobs tax and will hurt San Diego’s economy. While propionates say that’s an overreaction and the money is needed for affordable housing.

Finally at 8:00 tonight California’s Office of Traffic Safety is starting an anti-drunk driving campaign. They are offering free non-alcoholic drinks to drivers at participating bars.
