AM Briefing from Bowlersdesk.com for December 17, 2013

Today beginning at 10:00 AM it’s a big day for San Diego’s City Council.

First they are setting the date for the runoff election. The runoff is expected to cost around $4 million. One date being batted around is February 11th because Solana Beach already has a special election set for then, and they could share the cost.

Then the other major thing on the council’s plate for today is if they should rescind the newly adopted zoning rules for Barrio Logan or take it to the public for a vote. The new plan separates industrial and residential areas of Barrio Logan and creates a buffer zone between the two. Businesses say the new rules will hurt them, thus hurting employment. Environmentalist say “It’s clear that the greedy executives running these out-of-state corporations don’t care about the folks living and working in Barrio Logan”.

At 2:00 this afternoon in Chula Vista their city council is meeting about a proposed sewer rate hike.

Then tonight at 6:00 El Cajon’s City Council is continuing interviews with people that want to fill the vacant council seats.

Tonight at 6:30 the Environmental Protection Agency is talking to the public about a new power plant proposed for Otay Mesa They are meeting at San Ysidro Middle School.

Immigration activists are making a point today but with a holiday theme. At 6:30 PM they are first dropping of Christmas cards and produce at Congressman Darrell Issa’s office then taking a Nativity themed march to his house.

A lot of holiday philanthropism today.

First this morning at 7:00 Chula Vista Police Chief David Bejarano along with some surprise NFL player are giving away 500 holiday dinners to poor families.

At 9:30 AM National City Police, Marine Corps Toys for Tots, the National Latino Police Officers Association, and Lowrider car-club members are giving away holiday dinners and gifts at 1200 National City Blvd.

And finally at 10:00 AM volunteers are sorting through the 2,300 toys donated by the Marines Corps from Toys for Tots.
