Fast Food workers are protesting today in over 100 cities across the country for higher wages. Organizers say they want the workers to earn at least $15 an hour. In San Diego they will be in front of the Wendy’s on Broadway and first at noon.
Educators are packing the San Diego Convention Center today kicking off the three-day California School Boards Association’s Education Conference and Trade Show. The conference hopes to help school board members, school administrators, and educators reach their education goals. However, if you preregistered it cost you $455 to attend and on-site today it’ll run you $555 … It begs the question … what school district in California has the money to pay for that?

At 10:00 AM San Diego City Councilwoman Lorie Zapf, the Burn Institute, and San Diego’s Fire Department kick off their fire safety campaign. Over the winter the risk of a house fire increases and senior citizens are particularly in danger. If your over 65 your twice as likely to die in house fire and if your over 75 that jumps to four times as likely.
150 San Diego County foster families are getting refurbished computers from the county of San Diego at 11:00 AM. Also at 11:00 AM the Deputy Sheriffs Association of San Diego County is getting info on a ballot initiative to reform California’s death penalty. Proponents want to change the lethal injection formula. The company that made a key drug in the old formula stopped making it. Other states have tried using propofol (that’s the drug Michael Jackson overdosed on) but the German company that makes that drug is not allowed to export it for use in state executions. It’s because of a European Union rule. After the Deputies are done with their briefing on the ballot initiative they’re talking to the press at about 12:30.
Two big cases are in the hands of the jury today. The Mexican kidnap gang Los Palillos is awaiting their verdict for kidnapping and murder. They could get the death penalty.
And Richard Tuite whose conviction for killing 12-year-old Stephanie Crowe was overturned on appeal awaits the jury on the new charge of voluntary manslaughter.
There are two arraignment of note in San Diego’s downtown courthouse this afternoon at 1:30.
Todd Francis is accused of being responsible for a hand gun that two children got ahold of, played with, leaving one of them dead … And Marciano Flores Jr is accused of killing his 60-year-old father in a drunk driving accident.
And finally tonight at 5:30 Legoland in Carlsbad is having its 11th annual tree lighting.
