A Suspect flees after shooting a pregnant woman three times in downtown San Diego’s East Village at around 6:20 last night. KGTV reports that the expectant mother was on the street gambling when a man dressed all in black walked up and shot her. Reportedly the victim then walked into the lobby of a residential hotel and said “I got shot. I’m pregnant” She was taken to U-C-S-D Medical Center and is in critical condition but she and the baby are expected to survive. The suspect is described as a black man wearing a black hoodie, black pants, and he was seen driving away in a white pickup truck.

Late this morning the guided-missile destroyer USS Howard deploys for the Western Pacific. The Howard and is more than 300 crew will work with the international community and provided maritime security. Media is asked to arrive at 8:45 AM

In court four things of note

First at 8:00 AM in El Cajon’s courthouse Ricardo Macedo-Frausto will be arraigned for carjacking is ex-girlfriend’s current boyfriend.

Daniel Hood will hear his fate for molesting his girlfriend’s daughter at 9:00 AM in Vista’s courthouse.

Also is Vista at 1:30 this afternoon Richard Berumen will be arraigned.

He’s accused of stealing a minivan, running from police, causing a traffic accent that intern caused serious injuries to the other party.

Lastly at 1:30 in Chula Vista Mark Edward Walters Jr. will be arraigned for domestic violence and stealing police equipment including a rifle and radios.

You can see pieces form the AIDS Memorial Quilt today at University of California San Diego’s Library Walk this afternoon from 11:00 am till 3:00.

At 10:00 AM the 41st annual United States Tennis Association National 40 Men’s and Women’s Hard Court Championships starts. The tournament runs through Sunday.

San Diego Fire Rescue and the U.S. Marine Corp’s Toys for Tots are honoring 8-year-old Sydney Baranas this morning at 10:30. Sydney saved up and used all of her allowance money to buy books to donate to needy children.

And finally tonight at 6:30 at the San Diego Central Library Professor Laurel Corona is starting a series of presentations about a period in medieval Spain when Jews, Christians, and Muslims all lived together called the Convivencia.
