AM Briefing from Bowlersdesk.com for November 13, 2013

The East San Diego County city of El Cajon has a new mayor today. Councilman Bill Wells was appointed by the El Cajon City Council yesterday. Wells will now finish out the term of former mayor Mark Lewis. Lewis left office is disgrace after he was recorded in an interview making insensitive comments about El Cajon’s Iraqi committee. El Cajon is home to nearly 50,000 Iraqi immigrants.

Tim Lambesis the lead singer for the Christian heavy metal band As I Lay Dying is back in Vista’s courthouse this morning at 8:30. He’s being arraigned on charges related to the District Attorneys accusation that he tried to hire a hit man to kill his ex-wife.

Chula Vista is breaking ground on an H Street extension this morning at 10:00. It’s going to connect Chula Vista’s water front to the rest of the city on the other side of 5 freeway.

Barrio Logan’s’ water front is top of the political pile today. Mayoral Candidate Kevin Faulconer is trying to keep the maritime industry in Barrio Logan. While some community members want to re-zone the area and make it residential only. Faulconer says that the business is good for the city and he’ll be out at the Albertsons in Allied Gardens gathering signatures to keep the maritime businesses in Barrio Logan.

FYI Barrio Logan is about 10 miles away from Allied Gardens. I wonder if Faulconer could get any signatures if he was at the North Gate Market next to Chicano Park in Barrio Logan.

At 4:30 tonight San Diego’s Interim Mayor Todd Gloria, Councilwoman Myrtle Cole, and Councilman Scott Sherman are talking about city government’s role in our lives with the students at Thomas Jefferson School of Law.

San Diego Councilmen Mark Kersy and Kevin Faulconer are meeting with the public tonight at Cadman Elementary School at 6:00. It’s all part of a series of community meetings to get public input on San Diego infrastructure. That means pot holes and the like.

And finally tonight at 6:00 the San Diego Association of Governments is unveiling the design for a new San Ysidro transit center.
