Welcome to another Political Podcast from BowlersDesk.com.

Ric Epps and I went met up with Kevin Faulconer at his campaign headquarters.

While Kevin is the official Republican candidate for mayor he wants to be seen as a moderate Republican that can work with San Diego Democratic City Council.

We were able to touch on lots of things in our half an hour with him.

How are you going to help San Diego’s middle class?

What does it take to get our economy back on track?

How is his record helping or hurting him?

And more.

You be the judge.

Giant oarfish washes up in Oceanside

Giant oarfish washes up in Oceanside

[trib_ndn vid=25275414]OCEANSIDE, Calif. — The carcass of a 14-foot oarfish that washed ashore in Oceanside was cut into sections and taken away by scientists for examination.

Oceanside police responding to Friday’s discovery contacted SeaWorld, the Scripps Research Institute and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, which carted the carcass off.

It was the second rare find in a week. Last week, an 18-foot oarfish was found dead off Catalina Island.

Rick Feeney, ichthyology collections manager at the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County, told The Times last week that giant oarfish — the world’s largest bony fish — only “wash up occasionally” because they’re typically in deep, open ocean.

GOP, Boehner lose support after shutdown, poll shows

fox5sandiego.com

WASHINGTON (CNN) — Just more than half the public says that it’s bad for the country that the GOP controls the House of Representatives, according to a new national poll conducted after the end of the partial government shutdown.

And the CNN/ORC International survey also indicates that more than six in 10 Americans say that Speaker of the House John Boehner should be replaced.

The poll was conducted Friday through Sunday, just after the end of the 16-day partial federal government shutdown that was caused in part by a push by House conservatives to try and dismantle the health care law, which is President Barack Obama’s signature domestic achievement.

According to the survey, 54% say it’s a bad thing that the GOP controls the House, up 11 points from last December, soon after the 2012 elections when the Republicans kept control of the chamber. Only 38% say it’s a good…

AM Briefing from Bowlersdesk.com for October 21, 2013

Back after a week off.

Today you can cast your vote for the mayor of San Diego. Early voting at the Registrar of Voter’s office 5201 Ruffin Road is available from 8:00 AM to 5:00 tonight. And you can still register to vote through November 4th. Mail in Ballots are available today too. The only thing on the ballot is the Mayoral election, so be sure to be counted.

Dense fog is slowing the morning commute. Hazardous conditions will affect the roads five to ten miles east from the coast. So leave early and slow down.

San Diego City Council is meeting today about the city’s pension fund policy at 2:00 this afternoon.

Then at 7:00 tonight mayoral candidates Mike Aguirre, David Alvarez, and Nathan Fletcher are talking the environment with the Sierra Club. Kevin Faulconer is unable to attend but did submit his answers in writing. That means that all of the candidates have had a chance to review the questions before hand and thus craft their answers. But being there in person means you can rebut you opponents. They’ll be at the Balboa Park Club’s Santa Fe Room.
