David Alvarez wins Democratic Party endorsement


[trib_ndn vid=25197493]SAN DIEGO – San Diego County Democratic Party announced they will be endorsing City Councilman David Alvarez for mayor after voting Tuesday evening.

David-AlvarezThe party central committee met behind closed-doors in Kearny Mesa union hall and came to a 63-40 vote in favor of 33-year-old Alvarez.

“[The endorsement] gives me a tremendous advantage and help.  It identifies me as the Democratic candidate that people of San Diego support,” Alvarez said.

Alvarez beat out three other Democratic mayoral candidates including ex-Assemblyman Nathan Fletcher, former City Attorney Mike Aguirre and Bruce Coons, executive director of the preservationist group Save Our Heritage Organisation.

“Partisan politics has never been my strong suit,” Fletcher said.  “I’m really good at bringing people together to solve problems and I think that’s what we need in our next mayor.”
