Hannah Anderson’s mother was bound, beaten to death, autopsy finds

Hannah-Anderson,-James-Lee-DiMaggioSAN DIEGO — The mother of kidnap victim Hannah Anderson was bound, gagged and beaten to death before the killer set his home ablaze and fled with the teenager to the Northwest, according to the San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office.

Christina Anderson, 44, a medical assistant, died of blunt force injury to the head with a minimum of 12 blows to her face and head, an autopsy report released Monday said.

She also had a broken arm and her throat was slashed, although the latter apparently was done after she was dead, the report said.

Christina Anderson’s body was found Aug. 4 in the garage of a burned-out home in the rural San Diego County community of Boulevard owned by family friend James DiMaggio, 40.

Sheriff’s investigators have concluded that DiMaggio killed Christina Anderson, her 8-year-old son Ethan and the family dog before fleeing with 16-year-old Hannah.

Border Patrol arrests swimmer floating on over $23,000 worth of pot.

The 55-year-old man was spotted about one mile north of the US/Mexico border and about 600 yards out to sea. He was floating on a bag that had over 52 pounds of marijuana in it. The man told officials that he is a Mexican national and does not have documents to be in the US.

San Diego Police are investigating the homicide of a woman whose body was found almost next door to San Diego Police Department’s headquarters in downtown. The victim was found at about 1:30 AM today. More info will come out later in the morning

San Diego City Council is expected to approve an 18.5 million dollar settlement today for a boy severely injured by a trash truck. 9-year-old Luke Acuna was hit by the city truck while riding his skateboard on November 17 of 2011. Attorneys representing Acuna say the trash truck made an illegal turn then struck the boy who was in a crosswalk at the time.

At 9:00 this morning San Diego’s County Board of Supervisors is meeting and on the agenda … the health care reform, data contractor bids, and public safety.

Smoke and carbon-monoxide alarms are the subject of a press conference this morning at 10:30 from Fire Marshal Doug Perry.

Stockbrokers Gary Yin will be in federal court this morning at 10:00. Yin’s and a former Qualcomm executive are accused of insider trading.

And finally at 9:00 AM the Cyber Security Summit kicks off. Organizers hope to help improve San Diego’s cyber security business.
