Filling mayor’s seat to be complicated and expensive #filner
[trib_ndn vid=25094681]SAN DIEGO – The San Diego City Council will take on the task Wednesday of setting a special election date to fill the seat of Mayor Bob Filner.
City Clerk Liz Maland will present a proposal to City Council Wednesday pushing for November 19 to be the date for the special election.
More than half a dozen candidates have filed for candidacy, with Carl DeMaio, Kevin Faulconer and Todd Gloria expected to announce soon.
“The speed of this is going to be something like whiplash,” said Liam Dillon, political reporter for the Voice of San Diego. He said when the date of the election is set; candidates are going to have to move quickly.
“All the major candidates will need to raise about $100,000 in the first week alone to really be able to have a shot to be legitimate in this,” said Dillon.
