AM Briefing from for August 15, 2013

San Diego’s City Council may potentially take some of Mayor Bob Filner’s responsibilities away from him. Members from the council are thinking about taking the intergovernmental relations job from him. According to City Council President Todd Gloria the mayor canceled the cities contracts with San Diego’s lobbyists in Sacramento and Washington D.C.

Gloria sent a memorandum to Filner saying “Sadly, eight months have passed without any substantive public action on your part, and the city remains without a voice in our state and national capitols…”

Gloria says he will go to D.C. in September to advocate for the city.

As a side bar Gloria’s term as a city councilman max out and this is his last term on the council. He has expressed interest in a congressional run.
