Former Mayor uninvites Filner from D.C. trip

SAN DIEGO — The San Diego Regional Chamber of Commerce Wednesday rescinded an invitation to Mayor Bob Filner to be part of a delegation that will travel to Washington, D.C., at the end of next month.

The chamber’s CEO, Jerry Sanders, sent Filner a letter, dated Wednesday, that said the mayor would understand the action “in light of the controversy surrounding your office.”

More than a dozen women have accused Filner of unwanted sexual advances, one of whom has filed suit against him and the city. Also, the business community has expressed concern about alleged shakedowns of developers by the mayor.

“This annual trip is a critical opportunity for a regional delegation to advocate for policies and projects that are vital to the region,” Filner’s mayoral predecessor wrote in the letter.

[trib_ndn vid=25004444]SAN DIEGO — The group trying to recall Mayor Bob Filner is ramping up its game plan by hiring a few local heavy hitters in the political and fundraising arena.

“The team includes highly respected local campaign veterans consultant John Hoy, treasurer April Boling and fundraiser Jean Freelove,” said the Recall Bob Filner campaign new communications director Rachel Laing.

When it comes to money, Boling said the campaign will need at least half a million dollars, but she thinks those who want to see the recall happen will deliver.

“I’m very surprised by the public outpouring. There are hundreds, if not thousands, of small contributions coming in,” Boling said.

Campaign organizers are also reaching out to City Council for help.

2 Powerball tickets worth $289K sold in San Diego County

WEB-powerballSAN DIEGO — Two Powerball tickets sold at stores in San Diego County were each worth more than $289,000, lottery officials said.

Tickets that matched five out of six winning numbers were sold at the Ralph’s grocery store at 5680 Mission Center Road in San Diego, and at the 7-Eleven at 2425 Sweetwater Road in National City, according to the California Lottery. They all matched numbers 5, 25, 30, 58 and 59 but missed Powerball number 32.

The local winning tickets were among nine sold in California to win a prize of $289,341. Two tickets sold in New Jersey and another in Minnesota matched all the numbers drawn for the $448 million jackpot.

The Amber Alert for a homicide and kidnapping suspect is expanded this morning to Nevada, Oregon, and Washington. 40-year-old James Lee DiMaggio is wanted for the murder of his old friend Christina Anderson and the possible kidnapping of Anderson two children, 16-year-old Hannah Anderson and 8-year-old Ethan Anderson.

Authorities believe DiMaggio may be running to Canada or Texas. He may be driving a blue 2013 Nissan Versa sedan, California license plate 6WCU986.

DiMaggio is 5 feet 9 and about 150 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes

Hannah is 5-foot-7 and 115 pounds, with blond hair, blue eyes

And Ethan is 4-foot- 11 and 65 pounds, with sandy blond hair

San Diego’s former mayor and current Chamber of Commerce CEO Jerry Sanders formally uninvited the current mayor Bob Filner from the Chamber’s Washington D.C. trip. Filner was going to be a member of the delegation going to D.C. to promote San Diego’s economy. But with all of the sexual harassment, lecherous, and inappropriate behavior allegations coming to light the chamber says …

“We simply cannot risk any major distraction that would further impede the region’s business.”

A man wanted in connection to a 36-year-old murder is under arrest today. 60-year-old Carmen Aguilar was arrested by marshal’s deputies near Phoenix Arizona at around noon yesterday. Authorities believe Aguilar shot and killed Eriberto Landeros on June 19, 1977.

From a hospital bed this afternoon around 2:00 27-year-old Marciano Flores Jr. will be arraigned for driving drunk and killing his 60-year-old father. California Highway Patrol says Flores was drunk when he drove off the freeway hit a tree killing his dad.

In San Diego’s downtown courthouse this afternoon at 1:30 Michael Woodward will be sentenced for conning over three million dollars form hundreds of senior citizens. Woodward sold fake “in-home service agreements” … these were like fake handy-man agreements.

And finally this morning at 8:30 San Diego’s Muslim community is celebrating the festival of Eid at the San Diego Convention Center. The event marks the end of Ramadan the Muslim month of fasting
