AM Briefing from for July 23, 2013

Yet another bad day for San Diego’s Mayor Bob Filner

Yesterday famous civil attorney Gloria Allred filled a sexual harassment complaint against Mayor Filner on behalf of her client Irene McCormack Jackson, Filner’s former Director of Communications. In a press conference McCormack said “… the past 6-months turned out to be the worst time of my entire working life…” She continued “His behavior made me feel ashamed, frightened and violated…” In a statement later that day Mayor Filner said “I humbly ask that through this vicious storm of controversy, people take a moment and temper their rush to judgment. I do not believe these claims are valid.”

In the complaint on page seven section 22 KSWB FOX5 studios is mentioned. It alleges that the Mayor was here at our studios for one of his “Monthly Talks with the Mayor” when he put his arm on McCormack’s shoulder and said. “You are so beautiful. I love. One day we are going to get married” Now the City Attorney has advised the Mayor not meet alone with any women.

This story is going to go on for a while.

There is actually other news happening in San Diego besides the Mayor.

San Diego’s City Council is meeting today at 10:00 AM and expected to approve the ban on the sale of dogs, cats, and rabbits. So if you want a dog, cat, or rabbit for a pet you’ll have to get them from certified adoption centers. The new law says it is “unlawful for any person to display, offer for sale, deliver, barter, auction, give away, transfer or sell any live dog, cat or rabbit…unless the dog, cat or rabbit was obtained from a city or county animal shelter or animal control agency, a humane society or a nonprofit rescue organization.”

And tonight at 6:30 the Grossmont-Cuyamaca Community College District will sign a contract with San Diego County Sheriff’s Department. The Sheriff’s Department is going to take over the security at two East San Diego County community colleges.
