Large crowds expected for Big Bay Boom

[trib_ndn vid=24922969]SAN DIEGO — Fireworks shows are scheduled throughout San Diego County tonight to conclude celebrations of the Independence Day holiday.

fireworksThe Port of San Diego estimates that 300,000 to 500,000 San Diegans will venture to San Diego Bay to see the Big Bay Boom. Last year, the fireworks detonated in less than 30 seconds in a debacle seen on television and Internet video around the world.

August Santore of Garden State Fireworks said Wednesday that preparations for tonight’s show were going well. Fireworks will be launched from four barges on the bay.

The best viewing spots will be Harbor Island, the North Embarcadero, Seaport Village, Shelter Island and the Coronado Ferry Landing, according to the port. Spectators will also be allowed to bring chairs to view the show on Broadway Pier and the B Street Cruise Ship Terminal.

Happy 4th of July

For the 4th there is actually some news today…. Protester will rally in favor of strengthening the fourth amendment early this afternoon. The Restore the Fourth rally in will be at the Balboa Park Fountain at 11:00 AM.

There are a lot of celebrations around the county today.

First at 8:00 AM the Chula Vista Firefighters Foundation is having its fifth annual pancake breakfast at Chula Vista Fire Station 7. The proceeds benefit community fire safety programs.

It’s the last day for the San Diego County Fair. The gates open at 10:00 AM and then fireworks are tonight at 9:00.

Up on the mountain in Julian the 20th annual Julian Fourth of July Parade will entertain families at noon. Marchers will walk down Main Street and end with a community festival at Julian’s Pioneer Park.

This afternoon at 1:00 the city of El Cajon will celebrate the fourth with their annual Independence Day party at Kennedy Park. Then El Cajon’s fireworks are scheduled for 9:00 tonight

Also at 9:00 PM the Port of San Diego hosts it annual “Big Bay Boom”. Last year’s fireworks all went off at once so they hope this year’s goes as planned. The fireworks are set to light up San Diego Bay for about 20 minutes and be visible from all around the bay.

Other fireworks shows around town are …

First at 8:30 in Carlsbad at LEGOLAND California

Then at 9:00 tonight the Grape Day Park in Escondido, Mira Mesa High School, Poway High School, Rancho Bernardo’s Webb Park, Town Center Community Park in Santee, and Vista’s Brengle Terrace Park.

And at 9:30 SeaWorld’s pyrotechnics will be over mission bay.
