Military firefighters will be conducting several controlled burns at Marine Corps Air Station Miramar today. It’s all part of the yearly effort to reduce wildfire risk. Smoke and flames may be visible to commuters and people living in the area

Two pro-immigration-reform events today

First at 10:00 this morning the “Nuns on the Bus” tour is ending its 15-state run at Friendship Park. Friendship Park is a bi-national park that has parts on both sides of the San Diego / Tijuana border. The Catholic Nuns began their 6,500 mile tour near Ellis Island in late May.

Then tonight at 6:30 The San Diego Dream Team along with religious leaders will hold a candle light vigil in front of the Immigration and Customs Enforcement Agency at 1173 Front Street in downtown San Diego.

This afternoon at 1:00 the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals are protesting at SeaWorld. PETA says SeaWorld miss-treats the animal under its care … SeaWorld disagrees.

One of the three people involved in a bank robbery turned shoot out will be arraigned this afternoon at 1:30 in San Diego’s downtown courthouse. Laura Elshire is accused of participating in the robbery that left one accomplice with a gunshot wound and the other on the run.

Tonight at 5:00 the University of California at San Diego will host its all-campus graduation. UCSD will eventually hand out over 8,000 diplomas.

And finally at 5:30 this evening the San Diego After-School All-Stars is hosting the seventh annual Celebrity Dodge ball Tournament. Local luminaries will be pummeling each other at the Hard Rock Hotel in downtown San Diego to raise money for after-school programs.
