Sea lion wanders onto freeway ramp


[trib_ndn vid=24865290]SAN DIEGO — A sea lion wandered onto a freeway on-ramp and stayed there for about an hour before being rescued Wednesday morning, according to the California Highway Patrol.

It happened on the Mission Bay Drive on-ramp to southbound Interstate 5 around 6 a.m.

Officers from both CHP and San Diego Police arrived on the scene a short time later.

Animal experts from SeaWorld San Diego responded.

Around 6:50 a.m., animal control officers managed to wrangle the pup into a vehicle so it could be transported to SeaWorld San Diego to be evaluated, San Diego police said.

No traffic delays were reported.

10-year-old boy killed while playing with gun


[trib_ndn vid=24863135]SAN DIEGO – A 10-year-old boy died after he was shot in the chest at a Scripps Ranch condo complex Tuesday afternoon, authorities said.

A neighbor who heard a gunshot from inside a next-door home in the 10900 block of Ivy Hill Drive found the child suffering from a chest wound shortly before 4:30 p.m., according to San Diego police.

“I heard a loud pop and said that didn’t sound good,”said Micheal Mee, a neighbor. ” I found a boy curled up in the fetal position with a red dot on his back it looked like a gun shot…I didn’t see him breathing.”

The boy, identified by police as Eric Kylaz, was inside a home with a 9-year-old girl when the gun was fired, investigators said.

4-days of dangerous surf along San Diego’s south facing beaches will begin today. According to the National Weather Service large surf and rip currents will make swimming hazardous. The warning begins tonight at 5:00 ending Saturday morning at 11:00.

San Diego’s City council is meeting today. First this morning at 9:00 the Rules and Economic Development Committee is work shopping some small business programs. And then this afternoon at 2:00 the Public Safety and Neighborhood Services Committee is meeting to talk about a proposed contract with the city’s ambulance contractor. The city contracts with Rural/Metro Ambulance for emergency medical service. If the contract extension is approved then getting a ride in an ambulance will cost more for San Diegans. Currently it costs $1761.00 but if approved it’ll cost $1820.00 for a ride in an ambulance.

And this evening at 4:30 Grossmont College will honor about 1200 students in its 52nd commencement.

Then at 6:00 the Barrio Logan College Institute is holding its graduation. They help disadvantaged students get into college. Many of the graduates will be the first ones in their families to both graduate from high school and go to college
