Grand jury: Schools need adult bully policy


bullying-girlsSAN DIEGO — The San Diego Unified School District Board of Education should develop a policy against adult bullying of children, the San Diego County Grand Jury recommended in a report released Thursday.

The policy, which also should cover harassment and intimidation, either physical or emotional, should be included in the district’s administrative procedures and school site safety plans, according to the grand jury.

School Board Trustee Kevin Beiser said Thursday the grand jury may have overlooked District Administrative Policy 6370, which addresses all types of child abuse.

“Anytime anybody is inappropriately interacting with children or other people,” said Beiser. “There is a very vigorous complaint investigation conducted. We take it very seriously at the school district. It is inclusive of the human resources department, the San Diego School Police Department and the area superintendent. So we make sure that if there is anything inappropriate occurring that we investigate it…

33K gallons of sewage spill in North County creek


Sewage Spill SignFALLBROOK, Calif. — A sewage warning was in effect today in Fallbrook, where an estimated 33,000 gallons of sewage spewed from a ruptured main for more than five hours.

The spill in the 2800 block of Overland Trail began about 6 a.m. Wednesday and was stopped at 11:25 a.m., according to the San Diego County Department of Environmental Health.

All 33,000 gallons of sewage flowed into Ostrich Creek, department officials said in a statement.

Signs warning of the contamination were expected to remain posted at public access points to the creek until follow-up testing shows the water is no longer affected.

This morning at 10:00 Federal immigration officials are talking to the media about human trafficking. U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) representatives will talk about how people are tricked by smugglers and then enslaved. They are also going to talk about training available for local law enforcement and community groups that help victims become survivors.

Military firefighters are clearing brush today in a controlled burn at Marin Corps Air Station Miramar. Smoke and flames may be visible in the area from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM

The University of California at San Diego is opening its new trauma center 10:00 AM

Remember the Sprinter commuter train from Northern San Diego County? It was shut down because of brake problems. Well it is going to start running again and the North County Transit District is going to tell us when this morning at 10:30 at the Oceanside Transit Center.

Back down South in San Diego the Metropolitan Transit System is awarding 40 high school seniors laptops for winning an essay contest about creative ways to increase public transit ridership.

San Diego City Council is having a special closed session meeting at 5:00 tonight to talk about labor negotiation. However public comment is scheduled on this at some point as well.

And finally a groundbreaking at 4:00 this afternoon for Montgomery High School … They are getting new classrooms, gymnasium, science lab, and lunch area.
