AM Briefing from for April 26, 2013

San Diego’s Mayor and City Attorney are at it again. City Attorney Jan Goldsmith is now accusing Mayor Filner of allowing what the City Attorney is calling illegal marijuana dispensaries to proliferate.

In a press conference Goldsmith said “…the mayor has refused to allow case referrals to our office…”

In response the Mayor said “I’ve always enforced the law, that’s my job…”

The San Diego City Council asked Goldsmith to draft new pot shop zoning regulations to replace the current one. That is expected to take about a month.

The District Attorney is expected to file murder charges against the man accused of beating a prominent San Diego architect to death. 31-year-old Higinio Soriano Salgado worked for 56-year-old Grahm Downes and was at Downes’s house for a party and they got into a fight Salgado beat Downes so severely he is now brain dead. Salgado … arrested just after the fight ….will be in court this morning for a status conference when the new more severe charges will be filed.

Protesters are marching at San Diego’s Federal Building today at noon. They are protesting the Department of Homeland Security’s employment audits. They would like the President to stop the audits until the bill is passed.
