SDPD launches virtual neighborhood watch

[trib_ndn vid=24744393]SAN DIEGO – San Diego Police Department launched what they call a “virtual neighborhood watch program” on Wednesday.

They announced a partnership between SDPD and the website – a private online network for neighborhoods.

Screen Shot 2013-04-17 at 2 09 32 PM“You can communicate about straightforward things like finding a great babysitter, or recommending a new painter, or more personal things like asking for help finding a lost pet and critical important things like reporting suspicious activity,” said Nextdoor’s co-founder and CEO Nirav Tolia.

“The best information we get and the best way to make a city safe is to have a very close relationship with the communities that we serve and this Nextdoor program allows us to do that,” said San Diego Police Chief William Lansdowne.

It’s something Jean Freeman’s neighbors have been using in Pacific Beach for sometime.  She said it helped finding a criminal who had broken into her neighbor’s house.
